STUDENT SERVICES & TESTING
Academic Advising
Below are key dates and information to support students and families through the course selection process:
- January 6 and 8: During Advisory all current 9th -11th students will be asked to create their own individual Course Reflection and Planning document. They will reflect on how their current courses are going (including strengths and challenges) as well as indicating what next course they want to take (along with why and what they hope to get from the course)
- January 6 to January 23: Teachers will discuss with their students what course they are interested in and what would be the best fit.
- January 20 to March 9: Madison counselors will meet with students for their individual one-on-one Academic Advising session.
- 10th graders through English 10 courses (Jan 20 - Feb 6)
- 11th graders through US History courses (Feb 9 - Feb 20)
- 9th graders through PE 9 courses (Feb 26 - March 9)
- Students not enrolled in one of these courses at Madison this year will meet with their counselors at another time.
- Parents will be asked to confirm their student’s course selections through ParentVUE in March.
Rising 9th grade (current 8th graders) will participate in Academic Advising at their middle schools. Specific dates to be determined by the middle schools.
It is imperative that students thoroughly discuss their options and plans with their teachers, parents and counselors. The ability to change courses will be significantly less next year due to scheduling and budget constraints. Students will be expected to stay in the courses they selected all year.
