Principal's Message January 9, 2026

Dear Stone Families,

As we began the new year, our return to school did not start in the way we had hoped. During the first week back, we experienced a small number of student incidents within the building. These were isolated events involving conflicts between individual students.

I want to reassure you that Stone Middle School remains a safe school. Our staff responded promptly and appropriately, and we continue to do everything in our power to de-escalate situations and prevent conflicts from escalating. When students are involved in fights or altercations, consequences are issued in accordance with FCPS guidelines. These incidents involved fewer than 1% of our total student population.

How can families help?

  •  Please speak with your child about the importance of not running toward or gathering around a potential conflict.
  • Encourage your child to report any concerns they hear about to a trusted adult as soon as possible so we can intervene early and problem-solve with students.

Moving forward, we will be scheduling a mid-year session with all students to review FCPS Student Rights & Responsibilities and Stone Middle School’s expectations for student behavior. We are fortunate to have school counselors, a school psychologist, a school social worker, and many caring adults who are available to help students resolve conflicts before they escalate.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly or join us at the February Principal Coffee for further discussion.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Sonya Williams

Principal

🎓 Graduation Requirements and Planning

Planning which courses to take next year — and in future years — must be given considerable thought. Students and families should review the Graduation Requirements and Course Planning webpage to make informed decisions while planning for success in high school and beyond.

The curriculum webpage may also be helpful. Refer to our course catalog and course selection webpages.

🗓️ Mark Your Calendar: Academy Open Houses

FCPS high school academies are holding open houses for interested students. Open houses are a great opportunity to visit classrooms and labs, and meet instructors and academy counselors.

An academy is a center within a high school that offers advanced technical and specialized courses to prepare students for postsecondary education and/or career fields. Academy elective courses provide students with various career experiences, including shadowing, mentoring, or internships with local businesses.

Students can explore more than a dozen career fields through FCPS academies! Watch this video to learn more about academy programs.
