Principal's Message

Hello, Scottie families!

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a restful, joyful winter break filled with quality time and relaxation. It is wonderful to see the building and Scottland Yard buzzing with energy again as we kick off the second half of the school year.

As we settle back into our routines, we are hitting the ground running, and in the coming weeks and months we are excited to see the growth our students have made since August. Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an integral part of our school community. We have a fantastic 2026 year ahead of us!

Enjoy the weekend with your family and friends!

A few amazing highlights that happened this week...

Students conducting a science experiment

PreK students were scientists this week as they figured out how many drops of water it would take to melt an ice cube.

Cafeteria helpers

These two Scotties made the right choice simply because it was the right thing to do. Thank you for cleaning up our cafeteria when you saw it needed to be done!

Updates

Kiss & Ride Reminders

  • Drop off begins each day at 8:19 AM, and concludes at 8:30 AM.  Be sure to keep students in the car until staff come out of the building to help facilitate drop-off.  When the bell rings at 8:30 AM, Kiss & Ride drop-off closes. For any car riders arriving after 8:30 AM, park your vehicle and take your child to Door 2 to check them in at the office.
  • When driving through the Kiss & Ride line at arrival or dismissal, please pull all the way forward so there are no large gaps in between cars. Bonnie Brae staff will direct you to move forward and then assist your child in/out of the car.
  • Staff will help students enter/exit vehicles while parents stay in their cars. If you need to get out to help your child, please park in a parking spot.

Thank you for your attention and support with our Kiss & Ride procedures.

FCPS Math Week

FCPS Math Week-January 12-16

FCPS has partnered with MIND Research Institute, creators of ST Math, to bring FCPS Math Week to our community.

Scheduled for January 12-16, 2026, Math Week is a community engagement opportunity that aims to change how math is experienced.

You can visit the website at https://www.mindresearch.org/fairfax-math-week/. Spread the word, build excitement, and enjoy some math time with your family!

The site hosts free stories, games, and activities in English and Spanish. You can play games in the classroom if you’d like, but we encourage families to participate and play at home.

There is a form to log the number of minutes spent on the games each day – we are aiming for a goal of 3 MILLION MINUTES!

Thank you in advance for your participation and support. Please help us to get the word out to the community and make sure that FCPS meets our goal.

Healthy Habits to Reduce the Spread of Flu and Other Germs

Fairfax County is seeing very high levels of influenza (flu) illness. Visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings.

Consider these tips from the Fairfax County Health Department to help reduce the spread of flu and other germs

Bonnie Brae ES PTO

First Virtual PTO Meeting of 2026!

You are warmly invited to join us for our first virtual Bonnie Brae Elementary PTO meeting of the new year!

When: Wednesday, January 14 (6-7 PM)

Where: Use this link: https://calendar.app.google/u1Bnz8msk1frYRK36

This meeting is an excellent opportunity to stay informed, share ideas, and learn how the PTO supports our students, staff, and school community. Whether you’re a longtime volunteer or new to the PTO, your participation and perspective are truly valued.

Agenda highlights include:

  • Review of the current PTO financial statement
  • Overview of upcoming major and ongoing fundraising efforts, including Readathon, Restaurant Nights, Afterschool Clubs, Robinson Staff Basketball game and the Spring Festival • School and PTO volunteer opportunities
  • PTO leadership planning for the 2026–2027 school year
  • Open time for questions, ideas, and community input

As part of our commitment to strong planning and continuity, we are actively seeking nominations and volunteers for two critical PTO leadership roles for next school year (2026–2027):

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President, Major Events

These roles are essential to the success of our PTO and allow for a smooth transition and mentorship during the coming year. This will be the final year for these two positions and identifying future leaders now helps ensure continued stability and support for our school community. No prior PTO board experience is required—just a willingness to collaborate and care about our school.

If you have ever considered getting more involved—or would like to nominate someone you believe would be a great fit—we encourage you to join the meeting and learn more.

Strong schools thrive when families are engaged. We hope to see you online.
