Message from the President

Hello Fairfax High School Families, Teachers, Students, and Staff,

Happy New Year!!! I cannot believe the holidays are behind us. Time just keeps flying!  Just like everyone else the last few weeks have been super busy, so it’s been awhile since I’ve sent a newsletter.

The next PTSA Meeting will be Tuesday, 20 January at 7 pm in the library. I am thrilled to announce that the new City of Fairfax School Board Superintendent Dr. Dustin Wright will join our meeting to introduce himself and take questions.  We hope to see you there!

Parents of Juniors, time to start planning for college. There will be a college planning night next week. This will be very helpful for students planning on college after high school and their parents.  Please see info below from Ms. Kim.

Parents of Seniors, I haven’t forgotten you!! The craft fair concession stand, the first major fundraiser for All Night Grad, was a success. We have more coming up, please keep an eye out for the silent auction. All these fundraisers allow us to offer the event at a lower cost for the students. This tradition offers a SAFE and fun way for our seniors to celebrate graduation with their classmates, donations and planning support of this event are very important.  The next ANG planning meeting will be after the PTSA meeting on the 20th at 8pm in the library.

Car Magnet

Also, don’t forget to get your senior a car magnet!!!! Email ANG@fairfaxptsa.org and we can get you one. They are $10 each!!

Recently I was contacted by Food For Neighbors. This is a local organization that collects food  for local school pantries through their Red Bag Program.  Although the donations get spread throughout several schools, FHS students benefit from this program. I just ordered my Red Bag, please see the flier below for more information.

It wouldn’t be a newsletter if I didn’t make a request for you to join the PTSA.  Our numbers are very low compared to this time last year and we need help so we can continue to support the FHS community.

JOIN the PTSA NOW to support our FHS teachers, students, and community!  Your member dues and donations work to fund all of our activities and programs, help keep you engaged and informed about what is happening in our school community and provide opportunities to get involved if your time permits.

Parent/Adult: $20, Teacher/Staff: $12, FHS Student: $8.

2025-2026 Meeting Schedule: Third Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the Library, unless noted.

College Planning Night, January 15

College Planning Night

College Planning Night

for Juniors and their parents/guardians

Thursday, January 15, 2026 @ 7:00 pm

Fairfax High School – Auditorium

We are almost halfway through junior year, so it is time to start thinking ahead to the college admissions process!!  This year’s format will be an in person, panel discussion and will be targeted to juniors who are interested in attending a four-year college or university.  Four, very experienced College Admissions Officers will share valuable advice for your college search.  We plan to ask important questions about research, preparation, applications, acceptance and making the final decision.  We’ll wrap up with Q&A time dedicated to answering all of your admissions-related questions.

All juniors interested in attending a four-year college or university are encouraged to attend!

Note: The format of this event is a panel discussion and will not be recorded.  If you cannot attend on January 15, you are welcome to go to Chantilly HS on Tuesday, January 13 @ 7:00 pm or Madison HS on Wednesday, January 14 @ 7:00 pm.  It will be the same exact program with the same speakers.

For more information, contact: Ms. Maureen Kim, Fairfax HS College & Career Specialist at MHKim@fcps.edu, or 703-219-2204.

Food for Neighbors flyer

Have you seen the RED BAGS in your neighborhood? The Food for Neighbors' Red Bag Program is part of a movement to collect and distribute weekend food to middle and high school students who struggle with hunger. It's neighbors helping neighbors throughout Northern Virginia.

Please consider donating to the Red Bag Program. Five times a year they ask participants to fill a Red Bag with a specific list of grocery items to be given to middle and high school students. The bags will be picked up from your residence and the food will be sorted and disseminated to local school pantries including Fairfax High School. The next Red Bag event is coming up on Saturday, January 17th. Please consider donating!!
