Principal’s Message to Families
Dear Ravensworth Families,
This time of year is filled with magic, excitement and a wonderful sense of community spirit here at Ravensworth ES. This week our Kindergarten students made some gingerbread masterpieces and enjoyed a gingerbread man hunt. Our 3rd graders enjoyed their field trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and our 6th graders were able to visit the National Art Museum. Some of our students designed chariots complete with writing their own code and held an exciting chariot race. Additionally, our students were given the opportunity to sign up for a Stem to Space conversation with an Orbital Analyst in the United States Space Force, Lt. Joseph Kacergis. Our students engaged in a robust discussion regarding space, technology, and satellites. All of our students continue to work hard, learn new things and grow in countless ways. Thank you to our PTA and all our families who have shown such incredible appreciation toward our teachers and staff with daily treats and surprises.
As a reminder, winter break will be held Monday, December 22, to Friday, January 2. To help make sure you and your children have a restful break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. FCPS has developed a Winter Break Literacy Adventures Calendar to support students in maintaining the reading, writing, and speaking skills they have built during the first half of the school year, should you be interested.
We wish you and your family a restful and joyful Winter Break and look forward to welcoming students back in the new year. Classes resume on Monday, January 5, 2026, which is also our Sparkle into the New Year Spirit Day. Please wear some sparkle and Let your Ravensworth spirit shine in 2026!
Warmly,
Shannon Mueck
Ravensworth Principal

The Ravensworth Front Office will be closed for winter break from Monday, December 22, 2025 - Friday, January 2, 2026.

Weather Closings
❄️ Prepare for Winter Weather
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Verify and update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

Winter Break Activities!
FCPS encourages students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during winter break and snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play for your students during winter break or weather-related school closures.
Online Registration for SY26-27 Opens Jan. 6
Online Registration (OLR) for the 2026–2027 school year opens on January 6, 2026. Both new and returning (re-enrolling) families can use OLR to register students in grades Kindergarten (00) through 12.
The 2026-27 Online Registration packet has two important new questions:
-
Pre-Kindergarten Experience (grades 1-6): About the student's Pre-Kindergarten background.
-
Early Release Wednesdays: About childcare plans for students in grades 00-06 during Early Release Wednesdays.
The immunization process has been simplified:
- Parents will be asked to upload the immunization record or to check a box stating that a hard copy will be provided during the in-person registration appointment.
New families are encouraged to visit the FCPS Online Registration site for more information. Families may still use the electronic bundle or paper registration forms if preferred.
Family Spotlight Board
If your child has had a great personal/family moment lately, send Ms. Heiman (amheiman@fcps.edu) a photo and it will be displayed on the Family Spotlight bulletin board in the main hallway! Examples: family celebrated a holiday, cultural traditions, child rode their bike without training wheels, great soccer game, got a new pet, and more!
