Dear Garfield Families,
As we wrap up the year and head into the holiday season, we want to share our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks to you and your children. Garfield is truly a special place, and it’s because of our incredible students, families, and community. We are so proud to be on this journey together—there’s no place quite like Garfield in all of FCPS!
As winter break begins, we encourage families to help children enjoy some well-deserved rest, reflection, and calm after busy school days. At the same time, for those who wish to keep learning going, we’re happy to share a few helpful Garfield and FCPS resources below.

WINTER BREAK LITERACY CALENDAR
This winter break, inspire your child to have a literacy adventure! These 10 fun family activities (each one focused on specific literacy skills) are designed to help students practice their reading, writing, and creative thinking. Ready for an evening of wonder and hands-on fun? We’re thrilled to welcome The Children’s Science Center Lab to Garfield ES for their legendary Family Science Night!
Get ready for a 90-minute adventure into the world of science, filled with excitement for students and families alike. You’ll be able to explore a free-roaming discovery zone, where everyone can dive into activities at their own pace—touch, test, build, and experiment together!
We’re turning big scientific ideas into playful, memorable moments that spark curiosity and inspire the innovators of tomorrow.
