🎆Happy New Year 2026!

Good Afternoon Forestville Families,

Happy New Year! We were excited to return to school this week and soar into learning in 2026! Our students came back sharing great memories of time they spent with family and friends over the break. As we look ahead, though the weather may be playing tricks on us, the winter months at school are some of the most productive during the school year. Students are reviewing content from just prior to break and beginning many new units across all content areas. There tend to be longer patterns of consistent school days for students to quickly jump back into routines and maximize their learning time at school. They approach the halfway point of the year with more confidence and begin to see their work and efforts paying off in all types of progress. At Forestville, we love to celebrate these points of progress with our students and thank you for doing so as well!

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2026 and we look forward to all the great Cardinal days ahead this school year!

Your principals,
Mrs. Brooker & Mrs. Carlson

STEAM Set to Soar at Forestville

Forestville was thrilled to accept delivery over winter break of huge amounts of STEAM materials, made possible by the funds raised through the PTA and Boosterthon! We thank all families for your support and partnership as we begin to roll out our materials to students at every grade level! We will highlight specific opportunities for students as they happen over the next few months!

Image of School Experience Survey

Upcoming Student Experience Survey at Forestville

Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.

All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.

We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

🏢Got a Career? Forestville STILL NEEDS 4-5 More Volunteers!

Forestville Elementary School is planning a fun and engaging career exploration event for our sixth-grade students on Friday, January 16, 2026. We are looking for presenters to share about their profession! Thanks to all who have already signed up! The format of this event will be like a Career Fair where each presenter will have a table/designated area, and students will rotate through the Career Fair to interact with presenters representing a host of career pathways. We encourage you to bring props, posters, and other engaging materials for our students as you will be interacting with students across multiple grade levels. Giveaways are welcome as well. Please complete the form below if you would be interested in volunteering for this event. We appreciate your help with our Career Fair as we work to expose our students to a wide array of career fields and future opportunities. For planning purposes, it would be helpful to respond by Monday, January 12, 2026. Please contact Shana Schnaue, School Counselor at saschnaue@fcps.edu with any questions.

Sign up to be a Career Fair presenter today!

Kiss & Ride Reminders

As we kick off 2026, Forestville would like to thank families for remembering our procedures and having very timely arrivals and pickups. We also want to provide a few reminders to support the continued smooth flow of Kiss & Ride traffic:

Arrival

  • Doors open at 9:05 and school begins at 9:15
  • Ensure students are ready to quickly exit the vehicle with all their belongings
  • Say goodbyes ahead of the drop off spot so students can exit quickly and safely
  • Use the entire length of the sidewalk and gravel to unload students
  • Follow the directions of the attending staff
  • If your child requires more time and you choose to park and walk, please make sure to cross with your students at the crosswalk only
  • Please follow the direction of the front Kiss & Ride attendant who may ask you to briefly wait to cross in order to support the flow of car traffic before crossing

Dismissal

  • Ensure Kiss & Ride number is visible and/or be ready with student name
  • Follow direction of attending staff
  • Dismissal drop-off length is shorter due to increased traffic requirements at Nike Park
  • Students walking with parents to parked cars must cross at crosswalk only

Thank you for your continued support of safe student arrival and dismissal!

Winter Weather Recess Reminders

Forestville asks all families to send their students to school with jackets, gloves/mittens and hats labeled with the child's name. These items are essential to supporting safe recess outside and the names help as the students shed their layers through play. Forestville will go outside each day the weather allows. We follow FCPS and National Weather Service guidelines. At times, outdoor recess times may be shorter than 30 minutes and we will still go outside for the time period it is safe to do so. More information can be found here.

View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.
