Dear Roadrunner Families,
What a festive and vibrant week it has been at Little Run as we head into our winter break! We’ve had a wonderful time celebrating the season and the incredible community we share.
This week was filled with joy during our many class parties. We want to extend a huge thank you to all the families who helped coordinate and run these events—we know our students had so much fun and these memories will last a lifetime! Our students also showcased their school spirit throughout the week, concluding today with a cozy Pajama, Stuffy, and Movie Day. The school had such a warm and relaxing vibe as we wrapped up our final day together for the year.
In other exciting news, we celebrated our November Blue House this week as they had the most points from November! Congratulations, Blue House! Stay tuned to find out which house will take the lead as the December winner.
Finally, we are thrilled to recognize our Outstanding Employee award winners. We are so proud of the dedication and hard work our staff brings to Little Run every day. Please see our amazing winners highlighted below!

📹 News Show Equipment Updated!
Little Run Elementary School extends a sincere thank you to Educate Fairfax for the grant to upgrade our news show equipment! Over the next few weeks, we will be installing these updates to ensure our students remain empowered throughout the entire process—from writing to live production. By removing the limitations of outdated technology, we are giving our students the tools they need to thrive creatively. Stay tuned for photos once the new setup is ready!
🧣 Getting Ready for Outdoor Recess
This is a reminder that students spend 30 minutes outdoors during recess each day. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and/or other cold-weather clothing, gloves, and a hat, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
Throughout the winter, FCPS and the Little Run administration monitor the weather for very low temperatures, wind chill advisories, and weather warnings which may prevent children from being outside and call for us to shorten the time outside for recess.
If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing our Family Liaison, Maria Ruiz (miruiz@fcps.edu) is happy to support you.

Winter Break Literacy Adventures
Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!
Winter Resources for Families
A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.
Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!
We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.
Winter PTA After School Clubs are here!
Classes run Jan. 12–Mar. 13 and include Cooking, Abrakadoodle 3D, LEGO® Robotics, Sports & PE Games, and Chess.
