Sprinkle

Dear Mighty Red Bird Families,

Wow! It's hard to believe it's almost Winter Break! We want to extend a big THANK YOU to our amazing PTA for today’s festive sprinkle and for transforming our staff lounge into a fun, beachy getaway that brought so much joy and laughter. Moments like these remind us how special our community is and how supported our staff feels. We are also incredibly proud of our students for all they’ve accomplished so far. Their hard work, growth, and perseverance have set the stage for a strong and successful start to the year.

We wish all of our families a wonderful, restful holiday filled with time to relax, recharge, and make special memories together. Please remember that school and the main office will be closed for Winter Break from December 22 through January 2, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, January 5.

Thank you for a great 2025! We can’t wait to continue learning and growing together in the new year.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Long, Mrs. Agner, Mrs. Compton

In this first-grade Language Arts small group, students practiced essential reading skills through purposeful, teacher-guided instruction. Small-group learning allows for immediate feedback, deeper engagement, and continued progress for all learners.

📚📖Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!

Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Attendance

Attendance Codes in SIS ParentVUE Explained

Attendance codes in SIS ParentVUE are assigned by school staff to better identify the reasons behind student absences. This allows us to respond thoughtfully and provide appropriate support. Visit the FCPS Attendance Policy webpage to learn more about the codes.

When Your Child Is Sick

It is also important to keep your child home when they are sick. The Can My Child Go to School? webpage provides helpful recommendations on when to keep your child home.

For instance, a child should attend school if they have cold symptoms, as long as they are feeling like they can participate in school activities. However, if they have severe, uncontrolled, or rapid coughing; wheezing; or difficulty breathing, definitely keep them home and contact your health care provider.

Arrival and Dismissal - Be A Good Neighbor!

As a reminder, please help us keep arrival and dismissal times safe and smooth for everyone. We ask families to be good neighbors and mindful of:

  • Not blocking intersections or painted boxes during Kiss & Ride —this impacts visibility and also prohibits access for emergency vehicles.

  • Crossing only in crosswalks and watching carefully for cars.

  • Avoiding parking in residential areas, fire lanes, or private parking spaces.

  • Refraining from making illegal U-turns.
