Dear Island Creek Families,
As we head into our winter break, we want to wish each of you a healthy, happy, and fun-filled two weeks spent with family and friends.
We also want to extend a sincere thank you for entrusting your children with the Island Creek staff. It is truly a pleasure and a privilege to work with your amazing children every single day. We are so grateful for the Island Creek School Community!
We look forward to welcoming our Croc students back to school on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Enjoy the well-deserved rest!
Warmly,
Warmly,

Every Day Counts at Island Creek!
Help us reach our goal of 4% or less this year!
Attendance is a vital life skill that will benefit your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.
To ensure transparency and celebrate our progress, we will be sharing weekly attendance data in our newsletter. By highlighting this important information, we aim to keep our families informed and energized about our collective efforts to encourage regular school attendance

Tuesday evening's Winter Concert featuring 6th Grade Band and Strings, and our Chorus was beautiful! Thank you Mx. Hamilton (Band Teacher), Ms. Hicks (Strings Teacher), Ms. Arslan (Chorus Teacher), Ms. Laird (ChrousTeacher), and Ms. A'Hearn (Pianist).

During the second quarter in PE all students have been practicing their volleyball, dance, and gymnastics skills. During our volleyball unit students worked together to practice the set and bump skills using beach balls and volleyball trainers. In our dance unit students in grades K - 3rd learned a group dance routine and recorded a performance video for our students for next year! Students in grades 4th - 6th worked in small groups and created their own dance routine to specific grade level songs. In our gymnastics unit students in K - 3rd grade will learn gymnastics safety, warm up skills, various animal walks, and various rolls/balances. Students in grades 4th - 6th will work to create a specific gymnastics routine that has various requirements based on their level of skill. The collaboration our crocs have shown in the 2nd quarter has been AMAZING!
We are looking forward to starting our mid-year fitness & nutrition unit, striking unit, and basketball unit in the third quarter. Even on snowy or rainy days please make sure your child is prepared with the correct shoes for PE class!
Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about government and citizenship.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: Why are rules important?
- Activity: Have your child make a poster for an imaginary election — what would they promise as a leader?
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!
