VA Orff Ensemble

On November 19, select 5th grade students travelled with Ms. Kinsella to Norfolk, VA to perform with the 5th Annual All-Virginia Orff Ensemble at the 2025 Virginia Music Educators Association State Conference. BMP 6 students were among the 56 Virginia elementary-aged students selected for the ensemble and had the opportunity to collaborate and perform during the Thursday afternoon rehearsal led by Mr. Jeff Henson.  On November 20, students performed 6 Orff arrangements in the program titled "Songs from Near and Far". Most notably, they performed the complex xylophone melody in the Premiere of "Take Time in Life" arr. Jeff Henson. One student received high praise from Mr. Henson, "Look at you! You are doing all of the right things. Great Job". Another student also received praise for being "receptive and attentive to musical feedback." All 6 students received recognition from VMEA for their Outstanding Performance with the 2025 All-Virginia Orff Ensemble.

Lightspeed Allows Parents to Manage Student Screen Time

FCPS has introduced new parent controls in the Lightspeed to help families manage screen time on FCPS-issued devices. Through the portal, parents can control their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing during designated after-school hours while students are off the FCPS network.

The controls are active Monday - Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (even on student holidays) and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Parents can register for the Lightspeed Parent Portal using the link provided in the Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.
