Dear Olde Creek Community,

As we share our final Bear Bulletin of 2025, we want to take a moment to thank our incredible Olde Creek families for a wonderful year, so far. Your partnership, support, and involvement continue to make our school such a special place to learn and grow.

This time of year invites reflection and gratitude. Gratitude for our dedicated staff, our joyful and hardworking students, and a community that truly shows up for one another. From learning milestones in classrooms to events that brought us together, we are proud of all that was accomplished this year (so far).

Please note that the Olde Creek front office will be closed during winter break. We will reopen when school resumes on January 5th.

We wish you a restful, joyful, and safe winter break and look forward to welcoming our Bears back in the new year, refreshed and ready for all that 2026 has to offer. Thank you for being such an important part of the Olde Creek community. Once a Bear, always a Bear! 🐻

Warmly,
Courtney Korb
Principal

Staffing Updates

We are excited to share some important staffing updates with our Olde Creek community.

Ms. Emma Hamilton has been promoted and will be moving to FCPS central office, where she will serve as a curriculum resource teacher supporting multiple schools across the county. While we will miss Ms. Hamilton greatly at Olde Creek, we are incredibly proud of her and grateful for the impact she has had on our students, staff, and families. We wish her nothing but the best in this next chapter. Once a Bear, always a Bear! 🐻

We are also pleased to announce that Ms. Mary Ellen Doherty has accepted the role of Special Education Department Chair at Olde Creek. Ms. Doherty will be a strong leader and advocate for our students and staff, and we are excited to welcome her into this important role.

Reid Reflects: State Standards and the FCPS Budget Story

In her latest Weekly Reflections, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid thanked every member of our community for supporting FCPS as it remains fully accredited. Referencing a news release on accreditation, Dr. Reid noted how FCPS needs funding to support and maintain this excellence.

As we shared last week, Olde Creek was recognized as being Distinguished.

Visit the Budget Story webpage to learn more about the FCPS budget and the funding challenges that schools across Virginia, not just FCPS, face because of outdated state funding formulas.Read more of Dr. Reid’s Weekly Reflections.

Make Your Voice Heard!

Look for opportunities to share your ideas about funding public education and encourage your neighbors, friends, and community members to follow the FCPS budget process. Several key decision dates and engagement opportunities are listed below:

  • Thursday, December 18, 2025 - The Virginia Governor introduced the Fiscal Years 2026-28 state budget.
  • Wednesday, January 7, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. - There will be virtual regional public hearings on the governor’s proposed 2026-28 biennial state budget.
  • Thursday, January 22, 2026 - Dr. Reid will present the proposed FCPS budget to the School Board.

Visit the FCPS budget webpage for more information.

Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!
