Atoms Winter Weekly Recap

Boys Basketball played a single home game this week when they welcomed Fairfax to Robert Hardage Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The crowd was treated to a great game of back and forth basketball. The Atoms held several leads throughout the game and looked to put the Lions away but a big basket by the Lions would keep them in it. Ultimately, the Atoms were able to put the Lions away to get the 62-57 victory. The Atoms open up district play Monday night when they welcome Edison to campus.

Girls Basketball played three more games this week. First was a trip to Fairfax High to take on the Lions. The Atoms were without a couple key players and unable to hold on vs Fairfax as the Lions put the Atoms away to get the non-district win. Next up was a date with Gar-Field on Wednesday. The result for this game was different than the night before as the Atoms took care of the Red Wolves all night to come away with their first win of the season. The final game of the week was a trip to Edison. The Eagles continue to show why they are a perennial district power as they took down the Atoms to get the W. The Atoms return to the court Wednesday evening as they host Fairfax Trinity.

Gymnastics tumbled on the mat at Robinson Wednesday evening. The Atoms continue to fine tune their skills in their respective events. They didn't finish second in this meet but are getting better each day! The Atoms continue to work hard and will be able to show off their talents on Monday at South County.

Indoor Track did not have a meet this week.

Swim & Dive finally had their first meet of the season last night vs Edison. It was great night for the Atoms as they were able to get into the pool for some competition against someone other than themselves. The Atoms showed they are ready to compete for a district championship this as both boys and girls teams beat Edison! Girls won 183-133 while the boys was a tighter finish at 158-154! The Atoms jump back into the pool tonight at Audrey Moore vs Justice and finish with Hayfield Friday evening before the winter break.

Wrestling had their first tournament of the season last weekend with the co-ed team at a tri-meet in Park View and the girls at Herndon. At Park View, the Atoms had several new wrestlers hit the mat for their first experience of varsity wrestling. The results may not have gone in favor of the Atoms but they worked hard and were able to gain some valuable time that will be beneficial to them as they move forward this year. The girls got their first match jitters out of the way with a couple Atoms representing Annandale on the podium, highlighted by Ana Jenson (4th place) and Darling Saravia (champions) in their respective weight classes. The co-ed Atoms are at Sherando this weekend with the girls team traveling to Madison.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
