Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

As we move into our final week before winter break, I want to pause and share my heartfelt gratitude for our amazing Sleepy Hollow families. Your partnership, encouragement, and support mean so much to us, and they truly make our school the special place that it is.

With just one week remaining, we are encouraging our students to keep the momentum going and finish the year strong. Learning continues every single day, right up until the last day before break, and our teachers have thoughtfully planned engaging and meaningful lessons to support continued growth for all students.

Daily attendance is especially important during this final week. Each day of learning matters, and being present helps students stay connected to their classroom community, routines, and learning. We appreciate your commitment to helping your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn, even during this busy and exciting season.

Thank you for being such an essential part of our Sleepy Hollow family. Your trust, kindness, and collaboration help our students thrive each day. We are so grateful to partner with you as we support our children in learning, growing, and ending the year with pride and confidence.

With warmth and appreciation,
Principal Vega

Read-a-thon: Now until Jan 15

The PTA is proud to host our 3rd annual Sleepy Hollow Read-a-Thon!  The Read-a-Thon will be held Monday, Dec 8, 2025 until Thursday, January 15, 2026.

We have set a goal to raise $5,000 and every student has a goal to read at least 300 minutes for the Read-a-Thon period, we want to encourage them to do even more!

Our school-wide goal is to reach 200,000 minutes by January 15, 2026.

Read-a-Thon packets should have come home last week with instructions and a form to log minutes for each of the days - please encourage your children to log those reading minutes and help them earn donations!!!

Reporting Student Absences

We are committed to partnering with families to promote positive attendance habits. Whenever your child is unable to attend school, please let us know. Reporting absences helps our staff support students and connect them with resources they may need.

Full-day absences can be reported in SIS ParentVUE. Parents can also report absences by sending a talking points message to the classroom teacher or calling (703) 237-7070.

Parents may monitor their child’s attendance records in SIS ParentVUE.

Attendance Codes in SIS ParentVUE Explained

Attendance codes in SIS ParentVUE are assigned by school staff to better identify the reasons behind student absences. This allows us to respond thoughtfully and provide appropriate support. Visit the FCPS Attendance Policy webpage to learn more about the codes.

When Your Child Is Sick

It is also important to keep your child home when they are sick. The Can My Child Go to School? webpage provides helpful recommendations on when to keep your child home.

For instance, a child should attend school if they have cold symptoms, as long as they are feeling like they can participate in school activities. However, if they have severe, uncontrolled, or rapid coughing; wheezing; or difficulty breathing, definitely keep them home and contact your health care provider.

Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.

Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!
