🌟 Hello Forest Edge Families! 🌟

🎶❄️ What an amazing Winter Music Concert! ❄️🎶 Our students truly shined! ⭐ Band and strings students showcased their love of their instruments, and our chorus students serenaded us so beautifully with their voices. 🎻🎺🎤

Our 6th graders had a blast at the American History Museum!
They were so excited to learn that the museum is home to the original Star-Spangled Banner — the very flag that inspired our national anthem! ⭐

As we head into Winter Break, we hope you find time to relax, recharge, and enjoy special moments with family. 💙❄️🏡

We still have some fun activities planned for the rest of the week, so please make sure your child is at school each day. 🎉📚

We can’t wait to see everyone in the new year when we return on January 5th, 2026! ✨🎆

Thank you for always supporting our Eagles! 💚🦅
Good memories are the best kind! 🙌😊❄️

💚Soaring Beyond,

Dr. Brittany Rogers, Principal

Mrs. Ashley Fisher, Assistant Principal

Bundle Up! Coats Needed for Outdoor Recess

As temperatures continue to drop, please be sure your child comes to school wearing a coat or jacket each day. Students go outside for 30 minutes of recess, and a warm jacket is needed to safely and comfortably enjoy outdoor play. ❄️🧥

If your child does not have a jacket, please contact Cynthia Villafuerte at 703-925-8036. We are happy to help!

🙋‍♂️ Attendance Is Important Every Day!

wd

Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources.

Every Eagle, Every Day - December Attendance Challenge is in full swing!  Students and grade levels will earn prizes based on daily attendance.

Reporting Student Absences

We are committed to partnering with families to promote positive attendance habits. Whenever your child is unable to attend school, please let us know. Reporting absences helps our staff support students and connect them with resources they may need.

Full-day absences can be reported in SIS ParentVUE. Parents can also report absences by calling our school attendance line at [phone number] or emailing [attendance email address]. If a student is absent, and we have not been notified, our staff will reach out to parents.

Parents may monitor their child’s attendance records in SIS ParentVUE.

Attendance Codes in SIS ParentVUE Explained

Attendance codes in SIS ParentVUE are assigned by school staff to better identify the reasons behind student absences. This allows us to respond thoughtfully and provide appropriate support. Visit the FCPS Attendance Policy webpage to learn more about the codes.

When Your Child Is Sick

It is also important to keep your child home when they are sick. The Can My Child Go to School? webpage provides helpful recommendations on when to keep your child home.

For instance, a child should attend school if they have cold symptoms, as long as they are feeling like they can participate in school activities. However, if they have severe, uncontrolled, or rapid coughing; wheezing; or difficulty breathing, definitely keep them home and contact your health care provider.

Winter Resources for Families

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.

Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!

Lost Something? We Might Have It (and Then Some!)

Our Lost & Found is overflowing with the latest in Forest Edge fashion — gorgeous hoodies, snuggly jackets, and maybe even that sweatshirt your child swore they didn’t lose. 😉

If your student has been coming home a little chillier than usual, there’s a good chance their favorite hoodie is hanging out in the Forest Edge Lost & Found (a.k.a. the cafeteria).

Feel free to stop by next week during arrival to browse and reclaim your child’s long-lost treasures. 🧥👚

Let’s reunite these stylish items with their rightful owners before they form their own clothing club! 😂
