The Cardinal Connection: CPES News Delivered to You

CA CPES

Dear Cardinal Families,

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news regarding our school's attendance! Thanks to your incredible commitment to ensuring your children are present and ready to learn, our rate of chronic absenteeism has seen a significant decrease.

Currently, our chronic absenteeism rate stands at just 3.9%. This represents a fantastic 5% decrease compared to the same time last school year!

Every day counts when it comes to learning, and your dedication to getting your students to school on time each day makes a real difference. Consistent attendance is crucial for academic success and building strong routines.

Thank you for partnering with us to prioritize your child's education! Let's keep this positive momentum going throughout the year!

As a reminder, winter break will be held Monday, December 22, to Friday, January 2.

To help make sure you and your children have a restful break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. Teachers may assign long-range assignments in the weeks ahead of the break, allowing students to practice time management skills, but no assignments will be due immediately following the break.

We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year. Classes resume on Monday, January 5, 2026. See the complete school year calendar.

Warmly,

Allison Hoak, Principal

Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

❄️Winter Resources for Families

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.

⛄Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!

💻 Action Required! Update Your Permission for Google Tools

Google recently made changes to how educational applications are managed and accessed on the Chrome Browser and Chromebooks. Many applications are moving from the Chrome Web Store to the Google Play Store.

To ensure your student(s) can continue accessing all approved instructional tools, FCPS has updated its digital consent platform to include both the Chrome Web Store and the Google Play Store.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting safe and effective digital learning experiences for all students.

For questions or support, please visit FCPS’ Family Technology Resources page or open a ticket with our Technical Support desk.
