Dear Families,

We are excited to share that Timber Lane Elementary School has been recognized as On Track under Virginia’s new School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). This rating, based on data from last school year, shows that our school is meeting or exceeding expectations set by the state around student performance.

This new framework places a greater emphasis on standardized test results, alongside student growth, graduation, and readiness measures that vary by school level.

One thing has not changed: our students are learning and growing, and our teachers and staff continue to do exceptional work every day. This recognition reflects the strength of our entire school community. Our strong performance stands out and is something to celebrate.

We will continue building on this success. Our team is committed to keeping high expectations for learning, supporting each student’s unique strengths, and creating a school environment where every child feels welcomed, challenged, and cared for. We are also grateful for the support we receive from families. Your involvement makes a difference, and it plays an important role in helping our students succeed.

Thank you for being such an important part of our community. Together, we will continue helping every student at TLES thrive.

Warmly,

Ben Chiet, Sarah Buchanan & Lindsay Duch

🙋‍♂️ Attendance Is Important Every Day!

We are committed to partnering with families to promote positive attendance habits. Any day that your child is unable to attend school, parents should report the absence. By reporting absences, families are partnering with our staff so that everyone can make sure students are supported and have access to resources.

Full-day absences can be reported in SIS ParentVUE. Parents can also report absences by calling our school attendance line at 703-206-5331 or emailing TimberLaneES.Attendance@fcps.edu. School staff will call parents if students are absent, and our school has not been notified in advance.

Parents can monitor their child’s attendance records in SIS ParentVUE.

🌱Virginia Quality Birth to Five

FCPS participates in Virginia Quality Birth to Five (VQB5). VQB5 is Virginia’s system for measuring and supporting quality in early childhood programs so children enter kindergarten ready to learn. VQB5 builds on health and safety standards by measuring the quality of teacher-child interactions and the use of curriculum. Refer to “VQB5 for Families English/Spanish” for more information.

⛄ Winter Resources for Families

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.
