Herndon's Success Spotlight
Tommy McFly's Teacher Tour Stops By
Tommy McFly, in partnership with the Virginia Lottery, visited Herndon as part of their Teacher Tour on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The tour is an annual initiative where the Virginia Lottery and radio personality Tommy McFly recognize teachers who go above and beyond in their work. At the school, they delivered surprise packages of thanks, which included swag, treats from Georgetown Cupcakes, and Virginia Lottery Scratchers, providing a moment of much-deserved recognition for the faculty and staff.

On a wintry morning glowing with the spirit of the season, the Herndon High School Madrigals, led by the gifted Director Jane Waldrop, stepped into Jimmy's Old Town Tavern and transformed the room into a scene of holiday enchantment. As their voices rose in elegant harmonies, weaving through beloved holiday songs, the air filled with a warmth that matched the twinkling winter lights and the gentle glow of the fireplaces. The Madrigal Singers transported the audience to a bygone era of musical elegance. Members gathered in fellowship, stories, and a delicious breakfast that made the morning feel like a cherished tradition.
And at the heart of it all was the generous hospitality of Jimmy, Ashley, and the entire JOTT team—whose kindness completed this perfect morning of seasonal joy and heartfelt greetings. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Director Jane Waldrop and the Herndon High School Madrigals, their families and the entire staff at Jimmy's Old Town Tavern. The performance truly was magical!
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!

🎓 Graduation Status: New Feature in ParentVUE and StudentVUE
A new Graduation Status tool is available in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. The tool helps parents and students monitor and track their progress in meeting graduation requirements.
Graduation Status includes progress toward the Standard or Advanced Studies diploma for high school students and middle school students who have enrolled in one or more high school courses. This new feature is available in addition to the course history and unofficial transcript options in ParentVUE and StudentVUE.
To view the Graduation Status section, which is only available for students who have enrolled in high school courses, please take the following steps:
- Login to your SIS ParentVUE/StudentVUE account.
- Go to “Course History.”
- Go to “Graduation Status” and toggle “on.”
For questions about graduation requirements, please contact your child’s school counselor. Learn more about ParentVUE.
Volunteer FCPS Helps Community Members Connect With Schools
Volunteer FCPS allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities across the division. It helps ensure a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must:
- Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
- Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
- Sign in and out of schools using our visitor kiosk.
Individuals can complete a volunteer orientation on the Volunteer FCPS website. View Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels
Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.
As part of the application, all volunteers sign a statement confirming they have not been convicted of violent crimes, crimes against children, or other serious misconduct.
Field trip chaperone opportunities are now classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check).
