Dear Olde Creek Community,

This week at Olde Creek was filled with joy and connection as we celebrated two wonderful events. Our always-popular Book Fair and our vibrant Cultural Heritage Night! We love creating opportunities that bring our community together, and these events truly showcased the spirit and strength of our Bear family.

We are also extremely grateful to all the families who generously contributed to our staff “Bear-y Winter Wonderland.” Our teachers and staff have been absolutely delighted, and the daily surprises have brought so much cheer. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!

As a reminder, our front office will be closed during winter break. If you need assistance, please reach out before 4:00 PM on December 19th. The office will reopen on January 5th.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are so grateful for our community! Stay warm and enjoy the weekend, Bears! 🐻✨

Warmly,
Courtney Korb
Principal

 PTA Meeting on December 17

Join us for the last PTA meeting of 2025! We'll meet at 5:00 p.m. in Olde Creek's cafeteria on Wednesday, December 17th.

In addition to discussing our plans for next year, we'll also have a brief presentation from Amber Ong. Amber is our VP of Membership who also happens to have a PhD in school psychology and years of experience working with children in clinical, private, and school settings. Her presentation will be introducing families to the conflict cycle. We will discuss tangible strategies and actions to help our children remain calm when frustrated. We will also address helpful ways to engage with our children when they are experiencing emotional dysregulation.

After our meeting, head over to the gym for Olde Creek's Winter Concert.

Prepare for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

Winter Break Literacy Adventures

Engaging in literacy activities over winter break helps students maintain the reading, writing, and speaking skills they built during the first half of the school year. Even a little daily practice, such as these 10 fun family activities, helps ensure they return to school confident and ready to continue growing in literacy. Enjoy these literacy adventures as a family!

Attendance Is Important Every Day!

🙋Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources
