Happy December and happy Friday! I hope everyone was able to navigate the roads safely this morning. I appreciated today's call for a 2-hour delay so that all of our students could walk/bus to school safely.
Highlights from the Forest this week:
- 3rd-6th grade students enjoyed a special assembly by Mad Science. Thank you to our PTA for organizing this assembly!
- 5th graders went on their field trip to the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. The original field trip date was during the government shutdown so we were lucky to be able to reschedule right away.
- Girls on the Run students had an end-of-season celebration with their coaches, Ms. Cavazos, Mrs. Tyeryar, Ms. McMurry, Ms. Amy, and Ms. Molly. Great season, girls!
I hope you enjoy a restful weekend.
Sincerely,
Angela Thompson Principal

🙋♂️ Attendance Is Important Every Day!
Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources.
If you do need to report your child's absence, please let us know by one of the three following methods:
Military-Connected Youth Process Action Team (MCY PAT)
The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Military-Connected Youth Process Action Team (MCY PAT) identifies the unique academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs of military-connected youth and families, and ensures faculty and staff are informed and prepared to meet those identified needs. The team partners with FCPS and community stakeholders as appropriate to achieve these goals.
The MCY PAT strives to include family representation, and highly encourages military-connected family members to apply to be part of our team.
The team meets virtually on the first Thursday of each month at 2 p.m.
As a military-connected family member, if you would like the opportunity to be selected to participate, please complete this Google form by Friday, December 19, 2025.
For more information, please contact Katie Server, Family Partnerships Specialist, Military-Connected Youth & Families, at kaserver@fcps.edu.
