RunFit Kidz Finish Fall 2025 Season Strong

Our Willow Springs RunFit Kidz club recently wrapped up another great season with a run at Fairfax Corner. This season there were 50 Willow Springs student runners, lots of parents helping out and even Willow the Fox showed up to cheer on the runners!

This club is looking forward to being back in action in Spring 2026!

Dear Willow Springs families,

We hope all of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and were able to spend time relaxing and having fun with family and friends.

We are looking forward to returning to school and our regular schedule on Monday, December 1st. School opens at 9:00 AM and students are dismissed at 4:00 PM.

On Wednesday, we will have a Virtual PTA meeting at 7:00 PM via Zoom. You will receive the link to join on Wednesday afternoon. At this meeting, we will share our Boosterthon final numbers, hear updates about school events and our school renovation process, and more. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Have you noticed lately that our school grounds are a little cleaner? The PTA- sponsored Kids Do Good after school service club picked up trash and recycling at Willow Springs on Tuesday, October 14.

Thanks Kids Do Good for cleaning up our school grounds and taking care of our community!

Complete Your Federal Impact Aid Survey✅

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in.

Please complete your survey as soon as possible.

We provided paper copies to families who have had not completed the survey in ParentVUE as of November 12.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or submitting the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type “Federal Impact Aid Survey” in the Issue Description section. You may also call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).

Willow Springs is on the way to becoming a Purple Star School.

Willow Springs: Purple Star School

Willow Springs is on the way to becoming a Virginia Purple Star School

The Purple Star Designation is bestowed upon schools that demonstrate a significant commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and families. Schools are recognized as Purple Star Schools as a direct result of school-wide efforts to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all children, especially those whose families serve our nation.

During Family Engagement Night last Thursday, many of you stopped in front of one of our Walls of Honor Mini Memorials where we have displayed pictures and stories of former and current military members and their families.

If your family is new to Willow Springs this year, you have not yet had the opportunity to add your story to our school-wide story. Click here to go to a Google slide deck where you can add a picture of your family member(s) who is/are former or current members of the US military. Be sure to include a short description of the photo including the name, rank and branch of the individual(s) in the photo and the name and grade level of the WSES student who is part of the family. Also include the location where the military person has served or is currently serving. This will help families make connections with each other!

If you experience any difficulty accessing the Google slide deck linked above, you may email your photo(s) and description directly to Assistant Principal, Laura Tapper, at latapper@fcps.edu.

Your information will be added to a slide, printed out, and displayed on our Walls of Honor mini memorials.

Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener last month, providing information on skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE the week of November 17. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be shared by our school.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to school staff.

Monitoring Support for Your Child in ParentVUE

All FCPS schools use an approach called Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to make sure every student gets the help they need to learn.

MTSS helps school teams deliver high-quality instruction for all students and provide extra time, support, and interventions as needed. Families are partners in this process. We will share information about your child’s individual learning, needs, and progress.

You may view your child's intervention plans and progress in SIS ParentVUE. Expect progress to be updated quarterly, with report card due dates.

Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15

Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Ashley Raymond, our WSES AART at alraymond@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2025.

Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.

Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.

Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels

Due to the overwhelming response, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal confirmation that you have no history of violent felonies, physical or sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude (dishonesty, fraud, things that are immoral by society’s standards).

Visit the Volunteer FCPS website to complete a volunteer orientation. View Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
