Dear Haycock Families,
We hope you had a restful and festive Thanksgiving with family and friends. As we return, it's hard to believe December is upon us!
We hope to see you at the upcoming PTA Skate Night at Fairfax Ice Arena this Saturday, December 6 from 6:45-8:15. It's a fun evening for our school community every year.
Our December early release day is coming up next week on Wednesday, December 10. Students will be dismissed at 1:05 p.m. You should receive an email from Haycock this week confirming what we understand your dismissal plan is for your child(ren) for that day. We ask that no last minute changes be made to the plans. We want to ensure that all students are safe and get home at the time and in the manner intended.
On that afternoon, teachers will be engaged in instructional planning and professional learning about morphology and word study instruction which is an important component of literacy.
We are super excited about the Haycock Book Fair that will take place next week, December 8-12. Thursday, December 11 is a Book Fair Family Event (5:30-8:00 p.m.) paired with our winter chorus and strings concerts that same evening. Plan to stop by and enjoy all the wonderful things going on that evening at Haycock.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Krystal Styles, AP krstyles@fcps.edu

🌽Garden Work at Haycock, Sunday 12/7
11am - 1 pm

Bring garden rakes, gloves, shovels and any wagons or wheelbarrows you have to share. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and clothes for digging and moving around.
Students welcome, accompanied by adults.
No sign up needed, just meet by the playground.
🛑Kiss and Ride Safety Reminders
As the weather gets colder, we are seeing increasing numbers of cars coming through the Kiss and Ride line. To keep all students and staff safe, we ask the following:
- Stay in your car while coming through the Kiss and Ride line. A patrol or staff member will assist with opening the door and getting your child out of the car.
- Don't park in lower lot, simply follow staff members directions and come through the line to drop your child off.
- Follow the cones that indicate where you should go and the directions of the staff members who work the Kiss and Ride line.
- The Kiss and Ride entrance AND exit are located closest to the baseball field. Cones are set up to block any exiting closest to the stoplight at Westmoreland and Haycock Rd.
- Students are only to be dropped off in the Kiss and Ride line, not on the street by Westmoreland.
- Pull up to the front of the Kiss and Ride line to allow for more student access.
Thank you for your cooperation. The above practices keep everyone safe and keep the line moving at a quick pace.

FLE lessons are available for parents to preview on Parent Vue through the Schoology account. All lessons and materials are provided for parents to preview. Opt-Out forms are available on this site and parents can choose to opt-out for individual lessons.
We will host an optional virtual Parent Preview Night on Monday, December 8 from 6:00-6:30 for those parents who may have questions once you have previewed the lessons. A link will be sent to you via an eNotify email this week.
📆Spring Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15
Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Siobhan O'Hair, AART, sfohair@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2025.
Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.
Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.
Next Steps for Parents
Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of their child’s materials after February 20, 2026, by emailing Siobhan O'Hair - sfohair@fcps.edu
At the elementary level, referrals for subject-specific and part-time AAP are screened by the school. If you miss the full-time referral deadline, your student can still be screened for subject-specific or part-time AAP services for the remainder of the year.
For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs webpage.
