Hello Edison Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We’re grateful for our community and the steady support you give our students and staff.
Winter sports are off to a strong start, and our athletes are already giving us plenty to cheer about. We’re excited to support them through the season, and I hope you’ll join us in the stands as often as you can.
Our performing arts department is getting ready for their winter concerts, which are always a highlight of the season. I encourage everyone to come out, support our students, and enjoy the music they’ve worked so hard to prepare.
As we enter December, I want to acknowledge National Special Education Day, recognized each year on December 2. This day commemorates President Gerald Ford’s signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in 1975. We celebrate our teachers and staff who serve and support students receiving special education services, along with the families who partner with us every day. Thank you to our special education staff for your dedication to ensuring students receive their services in the least restrictive environment possible. Your work makes a tremendous difference.
As we enter the holiday season, I want to remind everyone of the importance of students being in school and in class each day. Consistent attendance matters, especially this time of year. If your student needs to be out, please call or send in a note so we can excuse the absence. Excused absences include illness and medical appointments. If your student will be out for more than 3 days, please use the prearranged absence form so we can plan accordingly.
We’re also heading into winter, and the weather can shift quickly. All weather-related announcements will come directly from FCPS and will be reposted on our school’s social media accounts. Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay informed.
Thank you again for your support of our students and staff. I hope you have a restful weekend.
Have a great weekend!
Amanda Burke Principal

We are excited to share that we will have a guest speaker for our 9th-grade students on Monday, December 15, 2025, during the advisory and flex periods. The presentation will focus on the theme “Graduating for Success.”
Thanks to your generosity, the Edison HS PTSA provided $50 Aldi gift cards to 48 families facing food insecurity over the Thanksgiving break. The number of families requesting assistance this year was 60% higher than last Thanksgiving, and the PTSA is proud to support our Edison families through this effort.
As the long winter break approaches, we are mobilizing again to raise funds to support Edison families experiencing food insecurity by providing grocery store gift cards to help them purchase food for family meals and snacks while school is closed.
If you are able, please consider contributing toward the purchase of these gift cards. Any amount you can give will help us achieve our goal to support families with $50 gift cards to help them purchase groceries over the two-week break. Your generosity, big or small, will make a meaningful difference for our students and their families
To donate, simply visit https://edisonhsptsa.givebacks.com/shop/items/c32c137cc48e and make your donation by Saturday, 12/13.

Volunteer FCPS Helps Community Members Connect With Schools
Volunteer FCPS allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities across the division. It helps ensure a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must:
- Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
- Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
- Sign in and out of schools using our visitor kiosk.
Individuals can complete a volunteer orientation on the Volunteer FCPS website. View Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels
Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.
As part of the application, all volunteers sign a statement confirming they have not been convicted of violent crimes, crimes against children, or other serious misconduct.
Field trip chaperone opportunities are now classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check).
