Dear Olde Creek Community,

Today we welcomed the first winter weather of the year! Please remember to send your children to school dressed appropriately for the cold. We will continue to enjoy outdoor activities as long as temperatures allow, so proper attire is important to keep our Bears safe and comfortable.

A big thank you to all of our families for supporting our Portrait of a Graduation Spirit Week! Your involvement made it a truly fun and memorable week for our students and staff.

Next week marks the start of our Bear-y Winter Wonderland (Countdown to Winter Break), where we will have a special activity each day to celebrate and appreciate our amazing staff. If you are interested in helping us complete our wishlist of items to make this time extra special, please use THIS LINK or see the details below.

We are excited to enjoy two more full weeks of learning before our well-deserved two-week winter break. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, celebrations, or updates you would like to share.

Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our Olde Creek community!

Warmly,
Courtney Korb
Principal, Olde Creek Elementary School

Special Election on December 9

We wanted to make you aware that Tuesday, December 9, will be a special election day for the Braddock District Supervisor vacancy on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Olde Creek is one of 22 schools that will be serving as a polling place. We are taking extra safety precautions that will allow citizens to exercise their civic duty while minimizing disruptions to the school day.

In coordination with the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and the Fairfax County Office of Elections, we have identified an area of our school that will be open to the public during the school day. This location is removed from students and will be monitored the entire day to prevent anyone from entering other areas of the school.

We will need to make some parking spots available for voters, so if you have a meeting at school on December 9, we encourage you to arrive a little early to find parking. Otherwise, we anticipate that disruptions to the school day will be minimal.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we perform this important function for our community. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Prepare for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

Share Your Thoughts With Superintendent Reid

🎤  At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school.

Community Conversations with Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid are underway across the school division to discuss current challenges and future opportunities. We encourage you to attend, share your thoughts, and ask questions about FCPS. Events are planned for the following dates from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

Click on a date above to register. Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Community Conversations are open to all. Please check FCPS’ website for additional updates

Attendance Is Important Every Day!

🙋Every year, absences increase in the weeks before and after winter break. Give your child the gift of education and help build a habit of attendance. Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources
