Balloons Over Dranesville

Inspired by Balloons Over Broadway, third graders created floats and paraded across Dranesville's campus.

Happy Thanksgiving

We wish all of our students, staff, and families a safe, restorative, and joyful Thanksgiving Break!

To ensure everyone can fully embrace this time for family and gratitude, please note two school-wide practices:

  • Student Break: Students will have no assigned homework for the duration of the break.

  • Staff Break: To allow our dedicated teachers and staff time to rest and recharge, all emails and messages will receive a response upon our return on Monday, December 1st.

Thank you for your partnership in making Dranesville a remarkable school community every day and for making Thanksgiving a peaceful break for all members of our school community.

We are Thankful for Our Students' Presence

AttenDANCE Party

Ten classes ended the day with an attenDANCE party.

We are thankful for our students' presence every day. When even one student is absent, it impacts teaching and learning in the classroom. Our teachers intentionally plan grade level instruction as well as intervention and enrichment to meet students where they are and provide the lift and stretch that they need. Daily instruction across content areas will continue through December 19th. Please help us to maintain the continuity of daily routines by making sure that your healthy children are in school.

Day 61 Data

Dranesville's Current Chronic Absentee Rate is 7.6%

Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing ten percent or more of the academic year for any reason, including excused absences, unexcused absences, and suspensions. Based on a 180-day school year, that means approximately 18 days per year or 2 to 3 days per month.

Dragons at Herndon Fortnightly Library

Dragons at the Library

Thank you for joining us for our second Saturday of Dragons at Fortnightly Library. We loved reading with your children and learning what they were interested in reading about. We'll be at the Herndon Fortnightly Library again on Saturday, December 13th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and we hope to see you there!

Did you know that all FCPS students can borrow books from the Fairfax County Public Library? All FCPS students have a FCPL account and can borrow 3 books or materials through the Library Equity Access Pass (LEAP).

We have challenged all of our students (and staff) to read 6-7 books in the 6-7 weeks between October 28th and December 16th. If each student reads just 5 books during this time, our students will have read close to 3,000 books!

Students can record books that they've read on paper reading logs or online. Paper reding logs can be returned to your  Additional paper reading logs are available in the main office.

Thank you

💙Dranesville will be having a Books and Board Game Drive from December 1st- December 18th. We welcome new board games and new or gently used books. These books and board games will be enjoyed by our students and appreciated by our teachers.

💙If you are interested and able to provide a financial contribution to assist with field trip and instrument rental scholarships, school supply replenishment, or providing enrichment programming to our students, please contribute to the Dranesville Campaign through Educate Fairfax.

Board Games

Here are a few of the board games that we'd love to add to our classrooms and cafe.
