Notes from Principal Harris

Greetings Frost MS Families,

As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to each of you for being such an important part of our school community. This season reminds us of the power of connection, gratitude, and support—and we are truly grateful for the partnership we share with our families every day.

Our students continue to shine because of the encouragement they receive at home and the strong “One Frost” spirit that unites us. Thank you for your trust, your collaboration, and your ongoing commitment to helping every Falcon learn, grow, and succeed.

On behalf of the entire Frost MS faculty and staff, I wish you and your loved ones a joyful, restful, and safe Thanksgiving break. May this time be filled with warmth, gratitude, and moments that lift your spirits.

With appreciation,

Mr. Anthony Harris

Principal, Frost Middle School

School Picture Make-Up Day!

Make-ups are scheduled for December 5, 2025 during 5th period. Students may go for re-takes during their lunch period.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

The Federal Impact Aid Survey is now available to complete online.

Thank you parents for continuing to complete your Impact Aid Surveys.  If you have not yet done so, take a moment and go online in Parent Vue to complete this Survey.  Completing the form online ensures confidentiality, saves resources, and takes seconds.  When in ParentVue click the upper right hand corner dropdown and select Online Packets or open registration. Paper Surveys were sent home November 17th.  If you need a reprint to go home or any questions related to Impact Aid contact Frost's Impact Aid Coordinator, Rema Cancino rlcancino@fcps.edu

No Spray

Important reminder about keeping our school environment healthy and safe for everyone in the Frost community.

We know it's nice to smell fresh, but when scented sprays—like perfume, deodorant spray, body spray, or cologne—are used at school, the chemicals in them can actually trigger very serious health conditions for some of our students and adults.

To Keep Frost healthy, please remember that sprays should be used at home before coming to school.

  • Good hygiene is the best way to prevent body odors.

  • If you need to re-apply deodorant during the day, please bring a roll-on product instead of a spray.

If a student brings a spray product to school, it will be taken to the office for the day and returned later.

Thank you so much for helping us keep our school a healthy and comfortable place for all!

Book Fair

Library Fall 2025 BOOK FAIR - Volunteers Needed!

From December 5th to December 12th, the Frost Library will host its first book fair of the year! The Book Fair will be open during the school day from 7:15 am-2:30 pm.  Book Fair proceeds directly support Frost’s library and it’s a great opportunity to visit our beautifully renovated space!  Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted, but to avoid students carrying cash, please consider setting up a Bookworm Central eWallet or using other cashless payments (ApplePay, GooglePay). The eWallet allows parents to set a spending limit for their student, but only the exact amount of the sale is charged. Click here to set up an eWallet account for yourself and your student.

Volunteers needed!! The library will need adult help setting up the fair, cashiering throughout the fair, and assistance with takedown. Volunteers (and their students) also get 10% off any purchases!

Sign-up to Volunteer for the Book Fair HERE!

Questions? Contact Jenn Ros, PTA Book Fair Chairperson, at jennifer.m.ros@gmail.com or Dawn Alexander, Frost Librarian, at dlalexander@fcps.edu

Tutoring Resources for Families

Some families may be looking for additional resources to help support their child’s academic success. The Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of FCPS employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to hire as tutors. Families are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors. This list is not approved by FCPS and is only meant as a resource for families.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.

Make Room for Joy—Not Hunger—This Thanksgiving

Many families in our community face financial challenges, and providing a special holiday meal can be out of reach. That’s why we’re partnering with Food For Neighbors to provide grocery gift cards to families who need them most.

A gift of just $50 gives a family the freedom to choose the ingredients for the holiday meal most meaningful to them—filled with fresh foods and cherished family recipes.

We invite you to join us in supporting this important cause. Together, we can help students and their families experience not just nourishment, but the comfort of holiday traditions.

The Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is a state mandated Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). Parents/guardians, students, teachers, administrators, staff, and others interested in special education at FCPS are welcome and encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and/or public comment related to the unmet needs of students with disabilities.

FCPS’ Office of Special Education Procedural Support provides guidance to staff, families, and students in areas related to the implementation of and compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, as amended.

Families of students in special education programs can find more resources in the Special Education Handbook for Parents. (Translations are available from the Parent Resource Center (PRC).)

The PRC offers free webinars, consultations, a lending library, and resources to help adults support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities. Their YouTube channel includes videos of workshops and webinars for families and educators to support student success. Sign up for their newsletter to receive information on upcoming webinars and other resources. Please contact the PRC with any questions at prc@fcps.edu or call 703-204-2941.

Kathy Murphy, the assistant ombuds for special education, provides information and support to parents/caregivers and students regarding special education and Section 504 services.
