FCPS is asking all families to complete a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete the survey as soon as possible. Whether you are military or not, it needs to be completed for each student.
WFES sent home paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page or watch this video about why Impact Aid matters.
Register for ParentVUE: Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child’s education at FCPS.

The whole school gathered to watch our amazing 6th grade students put on a super fun talent show today. For you 80s fans, "Slash" made a special appearance! More photos to come in next week's issue. |
We are emphasizing the importance of "Keep Hands to Self" to ensure all students feel safe and respected. During a recent school-wide assembly we discussed how every person has an imaginary personal bubble because touch feels different to different people. We taught students to respect these boundaries by keeping their hands to themselves and practicing three positive ways to show appreciation or greeting: a high five, a fist pump, or an air hug/hug. These three options all start with an invitation. The second person can respectively decline or accept the greeting by doing it back. Please reinforce with your child the importance of giving others space, ensuring they use these respectful alternatives to celebrate and interact with peers.
Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Alina Delarosa at amdelarosa@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2024.
Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.
Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.
Next Steps for Parents
Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of their child’s materials after February 20, 2026, by emailing Alina Delarosa at amdelarosa@fcps.edu.
At the elementary level, referrals for subject-specific and part-time AAP are screened by the school. If you miss the full-time referral deadline, your student can still be screened for subject-specific or part-time AAP services for the remainder of the year.
At the middle school level, honors courses are open to all students.
For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs webpage.
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener last month, providing information on skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE the week of November 17. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be shared by our school.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to school staff.
We invite you to consider donating gift cards to support holiday assistance for our community. Donated gift cards can be dropped off at the front office or sent with your child to be given to their teacher. Donations will be collected until December 12th.
Thank you for your generosity and support!

Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Wakefield Forest Elementary is proud to organize a community food collection drive supporting families here in our Fairfax County neighborhoods. We're collecting essential pantry staples (non-perishable) that our neighbors need most: canned vegetables, canned fruit and fruit cups, cereal, oatmeal, jasmine rice, chicken/beef/vegetable stock, canned chicken, canned soup, garbanzo beans (dry or canned), penne pasta, and pasta sauce.
Bring donations to the GOTR collection boxes in the WFES lobby between November 14th-20th. Your donations will be split between two local Fairfax County non-profit organizations: St. Matthew's United Methodist Church Food Pantry and the Lorton Community Action Center. Both food pantries serve as lifelines for hundreds of Fairfax County families each month, including many within our own school community.
Together, we're strengthening our Fairfax County community and showing our children the power of local compassion. Contact the Girls on the Run site liaison for questions: rleadbetter@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting our neighbors!
