Notes from the Nest

From the Principals’ Desk

We loved seeing so many families join us for Muffins for the Military as we honored Veterans Day and celebrated those who have served and continue to serve our country. Thank you to our military families for being such an important part of our SEES community—you inspire us every day with your strength, service, and sacrifice.

We also held our first round of awards ceremonies, recognizing students for their hard work, growth, and dedication to SOARing in the classroom and beyond. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our Eagles’ accomplishments and kick off the second quarter with pride and excitement.

More pictures from both events will be shared in next week’s newsletter! 📸

With gratitude,

April Martin, Proud Principal & Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

📚 Learning about Government and Citizenship in Language Arts 📚

Benchmark

Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts is about government and citizenship. Students in K-5 will be learning about what a government does and what it means to be part of a community. Grade six students will learn about different types of governments across societies.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: If you could pass one law right now, what would it be?
  • Activity: Create a family constitution: work together to write three to five laws for your household and explain why they matter.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

Fourth Grade Focus for This Week:

This week, our fourth graders wrapped up their unit on fractions and began Unit 4: Multiplication and Division! In this new unit, students are building the foundational skills they’ll need for more advanced multiplication and division work. They’ll develop fluency with multiplication facts through 12 × 12 and the related division facts by exploring strategies for deriving and applying these facts. Students will also estimate, represent, solve, and justify both single- and multi-step problems involving two- and three-digit numbers. This week, our primary focus has been on discovering multiplication and division patterns using the hundred chart—an engaging way to deepen their understanding of these essential concepts.
