A parent joins her son for Thanksgiving Luncheon

We had a wonderful day yesterday hosting our Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon! Thank you families for joining us!

Dear Woodburn families,

Thank you for a truly wonderful Thanksgiving luncheon this past Thursday. It was heartwarming to see our families, students, and staff come together in celebration, and we are grateful for the partnership and joy you bring to our school. As Melody Beattie reminds us, “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

As the weather grows colder, please remind your children to bring layered clothing each day. We will continue to have outdoor recess whenever possible and being prepared for changing temperatures helps everyone stay comfortable and safe.

A gentle reminder that students should not bring candy to school, and we ask that food not be shared among students due to the number of allergies we manage across classrooms. Your support helps us keep all children healthy.

We are looking forward to a full and productive week of learning next week before we head into the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for your continued support and partnership—our community makes Woodburn such a special place.

🪴 Together We Grow,

Ms. Iyer and Ms. Dauberman

New Parent Controls in the Lightspeed Parent Portal

  • FCPS has enabled new parent controls within the Lightspeed Parent Portal to support families in managing screentime on FCPS devices at home. Parents can now manage their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing on district-issued devices, during designated "After School Hours" while students are off the FCPS network.
  • These parental controls are only active Monday-Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:00 AM, and all day on weekends and student holidays when students are off the FCPS network. Parental controls do not interfere with district filtering policies during the instructional day. Parents can register for the Parent Portal using the link provided in their weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.
  • For more information on Parent Portal, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page on the FCPS website.

You're Invited: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Theatre 4 Kids Foundation has partnered with Luther Jackson Middle School to provide an exciting opportunity for elementary students interested in the performing arts! We are offering an uncapped number of free tickets (2 free tickets per family) to Luther Jackson's performance of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on Nov 20 7:00 pm, Friday, Nov 21 7:00 pm, Saturday, Nov 22 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm.  Not only is this a great way for the students to get more acquainted with their future school, but it is also a perfect introduction to their theatre program, inspiring students to take a theatre class or be a part of productions in their future school years.

This offer is sponsored by the non-profit organization, Theatre 4 Kids Foundation, run by FCPS high school students with a mission to inspire the next generation of performers, artists, and technicians by providing unforgettable performing arts experiences for students and their families. More information can be found at our website: theatre4kids.org, or email us at theatre4kidsfoundation@gmail.com!

✅ Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to complete a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete the survey as soon as possible.

Our school will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE. For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page or watch this video about why Impact Aid matters.

Register for ParentVUE

Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child’s education at FCPS.

Volunteer Registration Update

Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers.

If you are scheduled for an upcoming fingerprinting appointment, please cancel your appointment unless you are a mentor, host parent, or non-parent volunteer having frequent, direct, and unsupervised contact with students, which will still require fingerprinting. FCPS will be charged if individuals miss a fingerprinting appointment without canceling in advance.

Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a background check).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal attestation confirming you have no history of violent felonies, physical/sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude.

Want to volunteer? Visit Volunteer FCPS to find and sign up for volunteer opportunities. Contact Volunteers@fcps.edu with any questions.
