Art Open House

Kings Park Families,

This is a busy, full week at Kings Park! Guests are experiencing their students’ creativity first-hand at our Art Open Houses. We hope to see many families at the Kings Park Library soon for this evening’s Meet Me at the Library event. Our week culminates in the return of our Thanksgiving luncheon, a special celebration where students, staff, and families come together to share gratitude and community. We are thankful for the support, engagement, and enthusiasm of our Kings Park families that make events like these possible.

Optional Home Access to Student Devices

At Kings Park, we're committed to providing every student with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. This involves both traditional and digital resources.

All students have the option to take their school-issued devices (laptop or iPad) home on weekends. This allows them to continue personalized learning, access programs like ST Math and Benchmark Universe, and build digital literacy and responsibility. Taking devices home is optional and not required for homework or daily learning tasks.

Families are encouraged to support routines for device care and healthy technology use.The school will provide guidance and resources to help students and families manage this transition successfully.

If you wish for your student to take their device home on weekends, please email your child’s teacher to begin the process. If you'd like to learn more about how technology supports learning at Kings Park, or if you have questions as we prepare for this transition, contact your child’s teacher or reach out to our School-Based Technology Specialist Michelle Crabill, mlcrabill@fcps.edu. We value your partnership and want to ensure every family feels informed and supported.

Kings Park ES Gift Card Drive

As the weather cools and we head into this season of gratitude, we are reaching out to ask for your help. We are currently collecting gift cards to assist Kings Park ES families in need. Gift cards to Giant, Safeway, Walmart, and Target will go directly to families of students facing food insecurity and/or requiring assistance with basic necessities and seasonal support.  Even small donations can make a big impact.  Gift cards are being collected now through December 12th. They can be dropped off in a box in the front office or sent with your child in an envelope marked, “Attention: School Counselors or School Social Worker.”

We are thankful to have such a generous and caring community and truly appreciate your support! Questions? Does your family need support? Please contact social worker Katie Carroll, kcarroll3@fcps.edu, family liaison Cinthia Loza, csloza@fcps.edu, or school counselors Corri Shusterman, rcshusterman@fcps.edu, and Tracy Rossi, tlrossi@fcps.edu.

📚 Learning about Government and Citizenship in Language Arts 📚

Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts is about government and citizenship. Students in K-5 will be learning about what a government does and what it means to be part of a community. Grade six students will learn about different types of governments across societies.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: If you could pass one law right now, what would it be?
  • Activity: Create a family constitution: work together to write three to five laws for your household and explain why they matter.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

✅ Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to complete a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in.

Thank you to all the families who have already filled out their Federal Impact Aid Forms on-line.  If you have not yet completed the survey, a paper copy will be sent home with your student(s) in the Take Home Folder this Friday.

The Impact Aid Survey is a federal program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program’s mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned (therefore tax exempt) property.

We need a completed and signed Impact Aid form from every child in our school, regardless of their military connectedness. If you have multiple children in FCPS, please fill out a form for each child. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.  We thank you for filling out and returning this form.
