Herndon's Success Spotlight

AVID Program Visits GMU

.

Students from the AVID program recently embarked on an enriching field trip to George Mason University (GMU). This visit offered them a valuable opportunity to tour the campus, learn about the college admissions process, and experience a day in the life of a university student. The field trip successfully motivated the AVID students, many of whom are first-generation college-goers, by making the pursuit of higher education feel more accessible and real.

📢 Community Reminder: Virginia's Cell Phone Policy for Students 📵

We want to remind all families about the Virginia law regarding student cell phone use during school hours to ensure a focused and productive learning environment. It is crucial that students keep their personal communication devices silenced and in their locker from the first bell to the last.

Please be aware of the standardized consequences for violations:

  • The 1st violation results in a warning.
  • A 2nd violation will lead to one detention after school.
  • A 3rd violation will result in two detentions after school.
  • Finally, a 4th violation is a significant consequence: you will lose your phone for 20 school days and will be required to turn it in at the office each morning and pick it up at the end of the school day.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing these rules for a better educational experience for everyone.
