Reminder:  Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15, 2025

Parents/guardians of students in grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP full-time referral form to Melissa Graham, AART and Mark Granieri, Principal, no later than December 15, 2025.

The window for families to submit a referral for full-time AAP services the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the Advanced Academic Programs Forms Page.   No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral from for full-time AAP services will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level.  Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically.  At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April.  Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Melissa Graham, AART.

If you miss this full-time referral deadline, your student can still be screened for subject specific AAP or part time AAP services for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for the full-time AAP services next fall. Referrals for subject specific and part-time AAP services are screened at the local school.

For more information, please visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs website.

The Green Team

Green Team 1

The Green Team is proud to partner with community organizations that share our commitment to sustainability. Eagle Scout Alexander Lieu will be leading a project to create a forest edge ecotone—a transition zone where the forest meets open habitat—along the border of Fred Crabtree Park near Crossfield’s Kiss and Ride area.

The project will restore approximately 768 square feet of land by removing invasive grasses and planting native species that provide food and shelter for birds, small mammals, and other wildlife. This initiative supports biodiversity and strengthens the connection between our school and local natural spaces.

Green Team 2

The Green Team participated in CNN’s Call to Earth Day 2025 by sharing drawings, ideas, and inspirations that promote environmental awareness and action. We invite you to view and like our video on Instagram, which highlights the theme “Guard Your Green Space.” The video encourages individuals and communities to take bold, collective steps to protect the natural world that sustains us.https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQvNWQPjZrP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Volunteer FCPS Update

Changes have been announced to the volunteer management system Volunteer FCPS due to the significant strain that the volume of applicants has caused on resources.

Field trip chaperones are part of Level 2 now. It is a faster application process. The only groups that now require Level 3 with fingerprinting are mentors, caregivers who host exchange students, volunteer tutors, and non-parent volunteers that have frequent, direct, unsupervised contact with students.

Anyone who was fingerprinted before Nov 4th will still be processed as a Level 3 volunteer but everyone else has been downgraded to Level 2. If you have an appointment to be fingerprinted, you can cancel it.

All volunteers (clerical, class parties, field trips, etc.) still need to register online for each chosen opportunity and sign in at the front office kiosk.
