Dear TJHSST Families,
Another week down as we get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday! I've got your first look at the scheduling plan for the 2026-27 school year. Right now we are just asking you to put some dates in your calendar, more information will be forthcoming in the next month or so.
A couple of changes from FCPS for you to review are some new Parent Controls in the Lightspeed Parent Portal and the volunteer registration process. I've also highlighted our recently concluded fall sports season and have an offer from our Colonial Athletic Boosters about their TJ Yeti fundraiser!

Believe it or not it will soon be time for the classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029 to select courses for the 2026-27 school year! Please save these dates for course selection season:
January 5 - SIS Course Request Opens for Students - Students choose courses and enter codes in SIS
January 15 - Curriculum Night for Parents and Guardians - Virtual sessions on Zoom from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
January 16 - Curriculum Fair for Students - in person sessions during eighth period
Academic Advising Schedule
- Rising 12 - through English 11 - Jan 20 to Feb. 6
- Rising 11 - through Chemistry - Feb. 10 to Feb. 26
- Rising 10 - through IBET - Feb. 27 to March 13
More information will be forthcoming. Please visit our Course Selection 2026-27 homepage as it will be updated often with the latest information.
- FCPS has enabled new parent controls within the Lightspeed Parent Portal to support families in managing screentime on FCPS devices at home. Parents can now manage their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing on district-issued devices, during designated "After School Hours" while students are off the FCPS network.
- These parental controls are only active Monday-Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:00 AM, and all day on weekends and student holidays when students are off the FCPS network. Parental controls do not interfere with district filtering policies during the instructional day. Parents can register for the Parent Portal using the link provided in their weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.
For more information on Parent Portal, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page on the FCPS website.
Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers.
If you are scheduled for an upcoming fingerprinting appointment, please cancel your appointment unless you are a mentor, host parent, or non-parent volunteer having frequent, direct, and unsupervised contact with students, which will still require fingerprinting. FCPS will be charged if individuals miss a fingerprinting appointment without canceling in advance.
Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.
Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a background check).
To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal attestation confirming you have no history of violent felonies, physical/sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude.
Want to volunteer? Visit Volunteer FCPS to find and sign up for volunteer opportunities. Contact Volunteers@fcps.edu with any questions.

Congratulations to our Fall Sports Teams!
Boys Cross Country and Boys Volleyball are National District Champions. Sita Lamartin and Will Fadden are National District Champions for Girls and Boys Cross Country.

Fall Sport Seniors
Congratulations to our 66 student-athletes from the Class of 2026 that were celebrated this fall season. Thank you for your contributions to TJ and your sport. Thank you, TJ families, for all your support during practices and games. Best of luck in upcoming seasons and all your future endeavors.

TJ's Colonial Athletic Boosters (CAB) YETI fundraiser is about to end. Proceeds from the purchase go directly back to the kids, and not just sports. CAB also supports the debate team, esports and provides facility improvements that everyone uses.
They make the perfect gift this holiday season!
