Hello, Scottie families!
Thank you to those families who were able to make it out to our adventure themed math, literacy, Get2Green, and Portrait of a Graduate night last night. We had a great turnout, filled with lots of laughter and learning. Thank you as well to our Scottie staff for organizing this fun community event!
Coming up next week on November 19 is our next Early Release Wednesday, with dismissal at 12:15 PM. Those students needing supervision will be dismissed at 3:15 PM. Students will follow their last early release plan. Any early release plan changes should have been previously communicated to your child’s teacher. Please email bbesearlyrelease@fcps.edu with any questions.
Friday, November 21 is also our next SCA Spirit Day - Construction Crew! Come dressed in your best construction gear (no hammers, drills, or power tools 🙂) or, as always, wear Bonnie Brae spirit wear/colors of blue and white!
Enjoy the weekend with your family and friends.

A few amazing highlights that happened this week...
Mrs. Clark and some Bonnie Brae students were excited to create using recycled materials.
An everyday moment that demonstrates kindness towards others.
Expanding Learning Opportunities for All Students
Beginning Monday, November 17, all students will be allowed to take their assigned laptops/tablets home each day and bring them back to school the following day.
This shift ensures every student has consistent access to personalized learning tools—like Benchmark Universe and ST Math—both at school and at home.
Students are not required to take their devices home. If you wish for your student to use their device only while at school, please let your child’s teacher know.
Device Care
- Students should transport devices in their backpacks each day
- Devices should be charged at home each night (chargers will be sent home with students)
- Please help your child develop a routine: pack the device each morning, just like homework
If Something Goes Wrong
-
Device issues at home? Visit the FCPS Student Tools and Technology webpage or submit a tech support ticket.
-
Device damaged or not working? Contact the school immediately; we have loaner devices available while repairs are made
-
No internet at home? Please contact the school office. We can provide a mobile hotspot (MiFi device) for families who need one
If you have questions about this change, please don't hesitate to contact April Cascio, School Based Technology Specialist. We're here to support your family as we make this transition together.
Three-Hour Early Release - Wednesday, November 19

As a reminder, if you shared that your child/children will need to stay at Bonnie Brae on our Early Release Wednesday, they will be dismissed at the regular time of 3:15 PM.
All preschool classes will follow their normal schedule.

Learning about Government and Citizenship in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 3 in Language Arts is about government and citizenship. Students in K-5 will be learning about what a government does and what it means to be part of a community. Grade six students will learn about different types of governments across societies.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: If you could pass one law right now, what would it be?
- Activity: Create a family constitution: work together to write three to five laws for your household and explain why they matter.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Bonnie Brae's Best Buddies Chapter
We are very excited to announce the launch of the second year of Bonnie Brae's Best Buddies Chapter! Last year we were recognized as Chapter of the Year, and are looking forward to another great year.
Best Buddies Elementary School chapters foster one-to-one friendships between PreK- 6 elementary school students with and without Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in which they share interests, experiences, and activities. Our Bonnie Brae Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Inclusion Committee will be supporting the program, which is led by Alexis McCormick and Michael Jordan, serving as the faculty advisors
Look for more information coming out soon in your child's Tuesday folder.

Lightspeed Parent Portal
FCPS has introduced new parent controls in the Lightspeed Parent Portal to help families manage screen time on FCPS-issued devices. Through the portal, parents can control their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing during designated After-School Hours while students are off the FCPS network.
These controls are active Monday - Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:00 AM (even on student holidays) and all day Saturday and Sunday. They do not affect district filtering policies during the instructional day.
For more information about the Parent Portal, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page on the FCPS website.
