Message from Mrs. Castillo

Bedtime Stories

Last week was a short but fun week at Lemon Road.  We began quarter 2 and the PTA hosted a cute Bedtime Stories event with several special staff readers!

We believe that progress reports are an important piece of communication between school and families. Therefore, for the 1st quarter of the school year, we have printed progress reports for all students, regardless of any paper opt-outs.  Progress reports will be coming home Wednesday, November 12 and will be available in ParentVue tomorrow.

There are a few schedule changes again this week. Tuesday, November 11th, is Veterans Day and schools will be closed. Thank you to all of our community members who serve and have served our country.  Wednesday, November 12th is our next Early Release Wednesday

Full-Time AAP Referral Process

PTA

Hi everyone! My name is Taylor Argue and I am thrilled to be serving as the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART) at Lemon Road! It was a pleasure to see so many of you at the Principals Coffee in October. I am returning for another parent presentation, this time to discuss the full-time referral process for Advanced Academics. Please see below for more information about the upcoming meeting - childcare will be provided for school-age children in the cafeteria. If you have additional questions, I can be reached at targue@fcps.edu

Veterans Day Recognition Tomorrow

Lemon Road will be recognizing our veterans and members of the military tomorrow Monday, November 10 for breakfast in the library.  We hope you will join us!

November Gardening Event:  Come get our pollinator garden cleaned up and ready for winter! We’ll be ripping invasive plants out of the ground and spreading milkweed seeds to get ready for a bumper spring. Come get service hours, get dirty, or just have fun. Meet by the trailers on Monday, November 10th, 3:05-4:15 p.m.  Please wear long pants and sleeves, and bring a water bottle. We’ll provide gloves, plants, and dirt. Please email Mrs. Busch at klbusch@fcps.edu with any questions. See you soon!

Plastic Bag Recycling Opportunity:  Our NexTrex boxes are in the building! Do you recycle plastic bags at the grocery store? Bring it to Lemon Road ES instead and help us work towards our 1,000 pounds of flexible plastic goal to earn a free bench. The plastic will be turned into Trex boards, so you’re helping out your school and the environment at the same time. Boxes can be found in the front lobby, by the SACC rooms, or in Mrs. Busch’s classroom. Let’s Keep it Green!

FLE Preview Night

The Lemon Road ES Family Life Education (FLE) Parent Preview Night will be held in person and virtually on Thursday, November 20th at 6:00 p.m. Staff will be present to go over the curriculum materials and answer any questions that you may have at Family Night and through Zoom.

There are two units of instruction that are designated as Family Life Education:  Emotional and Social Health and Human Growth and Development.   Emotional and Social Health lessons are delivered throughout the school year. Human Growth and Development lessons are scheduled for grades 4 - 6 in December.

FLE teaching materials including lessons and media titles that FCPS has streaming rights for are available through ParentVue.  FLE information is also available in the Lemon Road All Parents/Guardians Schoology course, in the Green FLE Content for Parents folder, including opt out forms.  Additional information is available through FCPS.

Complete Federal Impact Surveys

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, November 12th. For questions, contact the Impact Aid office at lmpactAid@fcps.edu or 703-329-7750.  For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Tutoring Resources for Families

Some families may be looking for additional resources to help support their child’s academic success. The FCPS Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of FCPS employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to hire as tutors. This list is a resource offered by the FRC, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors. This list is not approved by FCPS and is only meant to be a resource to families.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services, at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.
