Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
As we observe Veterans Day this week, I want to take a moment to honor and thank the brave individuals who have served our country with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. We are especially grateful to the members of the Wildcat Nation who have worn the uniform and defended the freedoms we enjoy each day. Your service embodies the values of commitment, integrity, and resilience that inspire our entire school community.
This past week has been full of excitement and celebration at Centreville! We wrapped up the inaugural season of Girls Flag Football with a memorable Senior Night, honoring our first group of trailblazing athletes who helped establish this new program. The Pyramid Choir Concert was another highlight, bringing together talented singers from our feeder elementary schools, Liberty Middle School, and our very own Centreville choirs for a truly wonderful evening of music and community connection.
Our Wildcat football team capped off an incredible regular season, finishing undefeated in district play and earning the title of Concorde District Champions! Congratulations to our players and coaches on this outstanding achievement! Additionally, our Boys Cross Country team represented Centreville with pride at the State Tournament, demonstrating perseverance, teamwork, and excellence.
Looking ahead, we’re eagerly anticipating the opening night of our musical, Annie, this Thursday. This production showcases the incredible collaboration that defines our school by featuring a live pit orchestra of our talented music students and participation from students across the Centreville pyramid. We can’t wait to share this joyful performance with our community!
Finally, a reminder to all students, staff, and families to join us for the PTSA meeting on November 18, where Dr. Reid will share updates on the Centreville High School renovation project. This exciting renovation will benefit both current and future Wildcats, and we encourage everyone to attend and stay informed.
Thank you and Go Wildcats!

December 3 - ASVAB Test Administration: The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a free career assessment that provides valuable insight into your skills in areas like math, verbal reasoning, science, and technical fields. Your results can help you:
- Identify your academic and technical strengths
- Explore careers in fields such as healthcare, technology, skilled trades, military service, and more
- Make informed decisions about college, training programs, or career opportunities after graduation
This year, we will offer the ASVAB at Centreville High on Wednesday, December 3. This is a valuable chance for students to learn more about themselves and your future. Plus, students who earn a qualifying score will earn distinguished honors at graduation!
Students need to complete this form no later than November 21st if you would like to take the ASVAB. Students will also need their parents to sign the ASVAB Opt-In Form. This is for students age 16 and up only. There is no obligation to join the military if you choose to take the ASVAB, but it is required if you plan to enlist in the military. Wildcat Staff Engage in Professional Learning: Last Monday, Centreville High School staff came together for a day of professional learning and collaboration. Working in content teams, teachers examined the level of thinking and rigor within classroom tasks and explored strategies to help students more effectively self-assess their learning, strengthening student ownership and agency. Our dedicated staff continues to model what it means to be continuous learners, always striving to grow and enhance the learning experience for all Wildcats.

Chemistry Lab Blends Math, Mystery, and Collaboration: Students in Ms. Saccomando’s Chemistry class recently put their problem-solving skills to the test as they worked together to solve the mystery of how many different types of beans were in a canister. Through collaboration and the application of mathematical reasoning, students combined critical thinking with teamwork to uncover the answer. Activities like this highlight how our staff are committed to ensuring students not only master content, but also develop transferable skills that prepare them for success across all areas of learning.

Student v. Staff Volleyball Game for a Cause: Last week, students and staff came together for our annual Student vs. Staff Volleyball Game, a spirited tradition that brings our Wildcat community together for a great cause. For the second year in a row, the staff claimed victory on the court! More importantly, the event served as a reminder of the power of unity and hope in the fight against cancer. The evening began with a heartfelt tribute to Ms. Scales, one of our own Wildcat staff members, who recently triumphed over her battle with cancer. We extend our love and support to all families in our community who have been impacted by cancer, honoring their strength and resilience in the face of challenge.

Mark your Calendars for CVHS Curriculum Night: It’s hard to believe, but our Student Services department is beginning to plan for the 2026-2027 school year. The Centreville High School Curriculum Night will take place on Thursday, January 8th from 6:30-8:00PM (with January 15th serving as a snow date). The evening will consist of a Rising 9th Grade Presentation from 6:30-7:00, with additional workshops taking place for current families, followed by our Curriculum Fair from 7:00-8:00PM. Students and families will be able to have conversations with teachers from each department about the course offerings so students can make the most informed decisions about their course selections for 2026-2027.
Every Day Is a Stepping Stone to Success: Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now that will help them graduate on time and help them with time management. Parents and families can play a big role in helping kick-start good attendance habits.
Please take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to schedule any trips or family events on weekends and school holidays. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to our school. Visit our Attendance webpage for more information.
November Is National Family Engagement Month: Family Engagement Month is a time to remember that parents and caregivers are children’s first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers.
The FCPS Family Academy supports the continued success and well-being of each and every student within the FCPS community. The Academy offers a variety of positive and engaging learning opportunities and meaningful connections to transform the FCPS experience into a welcoming environment for all families.
FCPS Family Café Series: Support Your Child’s Growth and Learning: The FCPS Family Academy announces the launch of a monthly series called the FCPS Family Café. These fun and helpful sessions are designed to keep families informed and involved in their child’s education. At Family Café, parents are key partners in helping children succeed. Click on a topic below to register to attend.
Volunteer Registration Update: Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers.
If you are scheduled for an upcoming fingerprinting appointment, please cancel your appointment unless you are a mentor, host parent, or non-parent volunteer having frequent, direct, and unsupervised contact with students, which will still require fingerprinting. FCPS will be charged if individuals miss a fingerprinting appointment without canceling in advance.
Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.
Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a background check).
To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal attestation confirming you have no history of violent felonies, physical/sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude.
Want to volunteer? Visit Volunteer FCPS to find and sign up for volunteer opportunities. Contact Volunteers@fcps.edu with any questions.
Tutoring Resources for Families: Some families may be looking for additional resources to help support their child’s academic success. The FCPS Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of FCPS employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to hire as tutors. This list is a resource offered by the FRC, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors. This list is not approved by FCPS and is only meant to be a resource to families.
FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services, at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.
Apply Anytime for Free and Reduced-Price Meals: Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals at any time during the school year.
If your income changes — for example, due to a furlough, layoff, or job loss — you may become newly eligible. Once approved, your benefits stay active for the rest of the school year and for the first 30 days of the next school year.
Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals or attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school receive free breakfast and lunch every school day. It’s a great way to make your food budget go further and save time from packing meals. Learn more about FCPS Food and Nutrition.
Impact of Federal Shutdown on Local Community: Fairfax County is home to around 80,000 federal employees and thousands of federal contractors. Its Federal Workforce Resource Hub is intended to help navigate current and future issues for residents, government employees, active military/veterans, contractors, nonprofits, and businesses who may be affected by actions, changes, or disruptions to federal services or employment. PSAT/SAT School Day Scores Available: Students who participated in the School Day SAT/PSAT on October 8 are now able to access scores via the College Board BigFuture School App or their College Board accounts. Students who participated in a make-up test will have access to scores on Thursday, November 6. Video tutorials for accessing and understanding PSAT and SAT scores are available on the College Board website.
National Merit Scholarship Information: Eleventh grade students who participated in the PSAT may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Families can reach out to their student’s school PSAT coordinator if they have questions regarding PSAT score reporting or the National Merit Scholarship Program.
