A Message from our Principal

It was a great week and start to the second quarter of the 2025-2026 school year.  Last week our Grades 5 & 6 Chorus performed as part of the Centreville High School Pyramid Concert.  Our Rams did an amazing job.  We also celebrated National School Psychologist Week by recognizing Camille Baguley, our school psychologist.  We are so fortunate to have her as a member of our Care Team.

As we head into next week, we have a few important scheduling notes and calendar reminders.  This coming Monday, November 10th, at 8:00 am, in the cafeteria, we will have our Veterans Day program.  This event is to honor the brave veterans in our community and military-connected families.  Tuesday, November 11th, is a student holiday as we observe Veterans Day.

We look forward to seeing our Rams on Monday!

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Veterans Day Breakfast

Centre Ridge Elementary School will host a Veterans Day Breakfast on November 10th, from 8:15 to 9 am, in the cafeteria.  Any relatives of CRES students and staff who are veterans or are currently in the military are invited.  We would also like to invite our special guests to stay and be a guest reader in your child's classroom!  If you would like to do both, please make sure you sign up for both slots.  RSVPs are due by 11/8.  Thank you for your service and we look forward to seeing you at breakfast. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F054EA4A92AAAF58-59412201-centre

Welcome Tara De Mello

November 18 - PTSA Meeting with Dr. Reid  CVHS Renovation Update, 7:00PM

The Centreville High School (CVHS) PTSA is hosting Superintendent Dr. Reid at their November 18th meeting. We invite all families in the Centreville Pyramid to attend. Dr. Reid will provide updates to our community regarding the CVHS renovation. Since the renovation timeline affects both current and future Wildcats, this is a critical opportunity to learn more about the plans. We hope to see you there!

Thanksgiving lunch

Thanksgiving Luncheon

You are invited to attend Centre Ridge’s Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 20th.  Family members are welcome to come eat lunch with their child.  Lunch will be $5.00 for adults who eat lunch.  A flier with your child’s lunch time will be sent home in your child’s weekly folder on Wednesday, November 12th.

Attendance2

Every Day Is a Stepping Stone to Success

Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now that will help them graduate on time and help them with time management. Parents and families can play a big role in helping kick-start good attendance habits.

Please take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to schedule any trips or family events on weekends and school holidays. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to our school. Visit our Attendance webpage for more information https://centreridgees.fcps.edu/attendance-reporting

✅ Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, November 12.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Volunteer Registration Update

Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers.

If you are scheduled for an upcoming fingerprinting appointment, please cancel your appointment unless you are a mentor, host parent, or non-parent volunteer having frequent, direct, and unsupervised contact with students, which will still require fingerprinting. FCPS will be charged if individuals miss a fingerprinting appointment without canceling in advance.

Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a background check).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal attestation confirming you have no history of violent felonies, physical/sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude.

Want to volunteer? Visit Volunteer FCPS to find and sign up for volunteer opportunities. Contact Volunteers@fcps.edu with any questions.

family engagement

November is National Family Engagement Month

Every November, we celebrate our families and all the ways you support your children every day. We are so grateful for our FCPS families! Families are children’s first and most important teachers, helpers, and supporters. Research shows that students do their best when families and schools work together as a team.

This month, we shine a spotlight on the power of family engagement. When families and schools partner together, students grow, learn, and succeed—and every bit of your support makes a difference!

In honor of Family Engagement Month, FCPS is excited to launch the new Family Café series! These sessions give families a chance to come together, learn, and connect. More Family Café sessions will be offered in other locations across the division later this school year—stay tuned for more!

Check out the Family Engagement Month webpage to learn more ways to celebrate and partner with CRES!
