Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,
This is another abbreviated week. Tomorrow we are off as we celebrate our Veteran's and we thank them for their service. On Wednesday, we will have our monthly 3 hour early release.
This message went out last week and in our PTA newsletter this morning. We do value our community's feedback and look forwarrd to heaing from you.
Feedback on School Priorities-
This year, our school's focus is on three essential priorities aimed at providing the best possible experience for every student:
- Family Engagement
- Personalized Instruction
- Sense of Belonging:
We are eager to hear your perspective on how well we are doing in these areas. Your honest feedback is crucial for us to assess our progress and identify areas for improvement.

Your responses will directly inform our strategy and ensure our efforts align with the community's needs and observations.
Countywide- Staff Recognition Program: Nominate an Outstanding Staff Member
We are fortunate to have a dedicated and caring staff at Franklin Sherman who consistently go above and beyond for our students. This is your opportunity to formally recognize an individual—teacher, assistant, administrator, custodian, or any other staff member—who has made a significant positive impact.
By nominating them, you give them the chance to be recognized at the school level. These school-level winners can then be put forward for further recognition at the pyramid, regional, and even the entire district level! Your nomination is the essential first step in this important process. Please consider nominating a Franklin Sherman staff member. You can find more information and nomination categories below.
Thank you for your partnership and your ongoing commitment to Franklin Sherman.
Sincerely,
Farris Thomas Principal Franklin Sherman ES

Franklin Sherman Calendar
To celebrate Franklin Sherman's recognition as a Purple Star School, we would like to invite our military-connected families, veterans, and anyone else interested in attending to join us on Thursday, November 13, from 9:20 to 10:30 a.m. for a presentation with coffee and light breakfast snacks. We will share what the Purple Star designation means, recognize our military community, and provide a chance for military-connected families to meet one another.
Please use this form to let us know if you plan to attend and how many people will be joining you: Purple Star Celebration . Should you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Justin Nielsen at jpnielsen@fcps.edu.
We will be tidying up the garden after school today, November 10, at 4:10 p.m. We have rakes and brown yard bags. Some of the leaves, however, can go in the lower garden beds on top and stay all winter until we plant again in the spring. All the leaves decomposing will be good for the soil. The pumpkin leaves that have died back can go in, too. We will do a good sweep around with rakes. If there are any sweet potatoes left, those can be your reward to bring home to enjoy! Please make sure you have filled out the Level 2 Volunteer Form on the FCPS website.

Our Turkey Trot is Tuesday, Nov. 25! It’s a fun way to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors before Thanksgiving break. Prizes will be awarded for most laps (girls and boys) per grade and most spirited. Parents are invited to come cheer, help count laps, or even run with your child!

When Should Your Child Stay Home
Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school and your child’s teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.
