Expanding Learning Opportunities for All Students
At Bonnie Brae, we're committed to providing every student with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. This involves both traditional and digital resources.
Our goal is to use technology purposefully as a tool that enhances learning, not replaces it. The device is one of many resources your child uses to learn and grow, alongside books, hands-on activities, collaboration with peers, and guidance from caring teachers. Today, we want to share an upcoming change that will expand these opportunities even further.
In addition to hands-on learning activities, your child's learning is furthered by tools such as ST Math and Benchmark Universe that allow students to work at their own pace and level. Programs like these adapt to each child's needs, providing extra support in areas where they're building skills and advancing them when they're ready for more challenge.
Technology is also an important tool that is used by students to develop products to show what they are learning. These are skills they'll use throughout their education and lives. Technology adds variety and engagement to their learning day.
During the school day, every child has access to a technology device which helps to ensure that all children—regardless of their home circumstances—have access to the same high-quality learning tools and resources while in school. While students have access to a device during the school day, this is not the case for all students when they leave school.
Looking Ahead: An Important Change Coming Soon
In the coming weeks, we'll begin allowing all students to take their school-issued devices home each day. This change will allow students to continue their personalized learning at home, to develop digital literacies and important routines around managing their technology.
We'll send detailed information about logistics, device care, and support resources before this transition begins. For now, we simply want you to know this change is coming and to understand the purpose behind it.
We know that any change brings questions, and we may need to work together to establish new routines. We also recognize that families have different perspectives on technology and screen time—and those concerns are valid and important.
If you'd like to learn more about how technology supports learning at Bonnie Brae, or if you have questions as we prepare for this transition, please reach out to April Cascio, School Based Technology Specialist. We value your partnership and want to ensure every family feels informed and supported.
Thank you for working alongside us to provide your child with every opportunity to succeed.
