Admin Avenue

Dear Olde Creek Families,

We’ve officially started the second quarter, and it’s been such a joy to see our Bears continue to grow, learn, and support one another. As we move into this next part of the year, we’re so grateful for the strong partnership we have with you as it truly takes a team to help every child thrive!

By now, all families should have had a conference with their child’s teacher to discuss progress and goals for the year. If you haven’t yet been able to schedule your conference, please reach out and we’ll be happy to help you get one set up. These conversations are an important part of our teamwork and ensure we’re all working together to support your child’s success. Quarter 1 progress reports will be sent home in Friday folders on November 14.

Next week will be a short but meaningful one:

  • Tuesday, November 11: No school for students.
  • Wednesday, November 12: We’ll honor and celebrate our veterans with a special breakfast and classroom visits. This is one of our favorite traditions, and we hope you’ll help us recognize the brave individuals in our community. Please use the link below to sign up your veteran to participate.
  • Wednesday, November 12: Students will also have a 3-hour early release that day.

To close out the week, we invite you to our first Principal Coffee Talk on Friday, November 14, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. We’ll focus on student social and emotional learning and well-being we’d love to see you there!

Thank you for all you do each day to make Olde Creek such a caring and connected school community. Together, we make a difference!

With gratitude,

Courtney Korb
Principal

FCPS News

Every Day Is a Stepping Stone to Success

Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now that will help them graduate on time and help them with time management. Parents and families can play a big role in helping kick-start good attendance habits.

Please take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to schedule any trips or family events on weekends and school holidays. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to our school.

Tutoring Resources for Families

Some families may be looking for additional resources to help support their child’s academic success. The FCPS Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of FCPS employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to hire as tutors. This list is a resource offered by the FRC, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with the tutors. This list is not approved by FCPS and is only meant to be a resource to families.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services, at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.
