Happy Friday!
It's hard to believe we've already completed one quarter of the 2025-2026 school year! We are beyond impressed by the incredible academic and social-emotional growth our students have shown. Parents and/or guardians will be able to see student grades in SIS ParentVue beginning Monday, November 10th. Progress reports will be sent home on Friday, November 14th. We're looking forward to an exciting and successful Quarter 2!
One highlight of our week was the Centreville Pyramid Chorus Concert. What a truly wonderful display of community unity, seeing our pyramid chorus students singing alongside our previous students who are now in middle or high school! We’re looking forward to celebrating Veterans Day on Monday before enjoying Tuesday off!

Updated Volunteer Information
Due to the overwhelming response from our community, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers.
If you are scheduled for an upcoming fingerprinting appointment, please cancel your appointment unless you are a mentor, host parent, or non-parent volunteer having frequent, direct, and unsupervised contact with students, which will still require fingerprinting. FCPS will be charged if individuals miss a fingerprinting appointment without canceling in advance.
Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.
Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a background check).
To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal attestation confirming you have no history of violent felonies, physical/sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude.
Want to volunteer? Visit Volunteer FCPS to find and sign up for volunteer opportunities. Contact Volunteers@fcps.edu with any question
This year, our front display case will incorporate a collaborative approach between CES teachers and families. We will use the FCPS recognized heritage and celebration months. Families and CES staff are invited to share books, artifacts, pictures, etc. for each month.
Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent children feeling valued and gives them a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent experiencing another life and promotes empathy.
We will celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November.
If your family wants to send something in, please contact: Aubrey Thorne at adthorne@fcps.edu
Bringing stories to life! ✨ Our incredible kindergarteners stepped right out of the pages and into their favorite book character costumes last Friday. 📚
FLE Parent Preview Night
You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 17th at 5:00 in the cafeteria. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.
Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child participate in FLE instruction may choose to opt their child out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more lessons, please complete the opt-out form available in Parent Digital Consent (PDC) at https://www.fcps.edu/family-resources/technology/digital-resources/consent/directions. If you are unable to access PDC, a paper opt-out form may be requested from the main office.
Literacy is thriving everywhere at CES! We're celebrating reading success across the grades. Our younger learners are mastering phonics through focused instruction, while our sixth graders showed off their comprehension skills during Battle of the Books. 📚🎉
Resources for Families Impacted by the Government Shutdown
Apply Anytime for Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals at any time during the school year.
If your income changes — for example, due to a furlough, layoff, or job loss — you may become newly eligible. Once approved, your benefits stay active for the rest of the school year and for the first 30 days of the next school year.
Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals or attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school receive free breakfast and lunch every school day. It’s a great way to make your food budget go further and save time from packing meals. Learn more about FCPS Food and Nutrition.
CES Backpack Program
CES will be offering our Backpack Food Program this year. We understand that for various reasons some families may have difficulty providing sufficient food needs for their children. The Backpack Food Program is a partnership between Centreville Elementary School and Mount Olive Baptist Church that supports the nutritional needs of our students.
The Backpack Food Program will provide a bag of nonperishable food items to your child each Friday afternoon for him or her to eat over the weekend. The food will be placed in your child’s backpack at the end of the day. Your child will receive the food items in a confidential area of the school.
If this program will help your family, and the need exists, we hope you will allow us to support you and your child with the Backpack Food Program.
Please contact Mrs. Kreider at aekreider@fcps.edu or you can fill out the form.
