Specialist Spotlight - Advance Academics

In Advanced Academics Programs, we believe the best ideas and solutions are not the first ones that come to mind. Fluency, Originality, Flexibility, and Elaboration (FOFE) provide students with opportunities to generate numerous ideas and think in unconventional ways without fear of judgment. So, imagine innovating usable out of recycled plastic.  What was once a plastic water bottle, can now float cookies across a little pond as a boat, a kayak.  Maybe the cookies can sail in the air as a plastic rocket.  Using SCAMPER, literally EVERYTHING and ANYTHING is possible.

Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Reverse, or Rearrange

When Should Your Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school and your child’s teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.

What to expect on picture day

  1. Any student wishing to have a retake should bring their original picture package to exchange for the retake image.
  2. When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
  3. If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
  4. A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
  5. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.

All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

Community Conversations

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.

A series of Community Conversations are being held across the school division to discuss current challenges and future opportunities. These events are also a chance for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events are planned for the following dates from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all.
