Kings Park Families,
November is Family Engagement Month and we are grateful for our Kings Park families! This month reminds us that families are our students’ first and most important teachers, advocates and nurturers. From reading with your child at night to attending school events, we appreciate the many ways you partner with us to support learning, connection and growth every day. FCPS’s Family Engagement Calendar highlights a variety of ways to meaningfully connect with your child this month and is also available in Spanish and Vietnamese.
Next Monday, November 10th, our entire school will come together to honor veterans and military-connected families in the Kings Park community. We are proud to celebrate their service and sacrifice and look forward to sharing this special celebration and Honor Walk event with our students and families.

Impact Aid Available Through ParentVue
The Federal Impact Aid Program is a federal program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program’s mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned (therefore tax exempt) property.
We need a completed and signed Impact Aid form from every child in our school, regardless of their military connectedness. Please complete one form for each child in your household. Remember that only the parent that registered the student with FCPS (the enrolling parent) can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
To access the Impact Aid Form from your computer or mobile device, we recommend using Google Chrome.
Step 1: CLICK HERE or type sisparent.fcps.edu into your Chrome address bar to be taken to SIS ParentVUE. If you don’t have a SIS ParentVUE account, contact your child’s school for an activation letter.
Step 2: After you’ve logged into your ParentVue Account, look for the ‘Online Packets’ link at the top of the page. Click ‘Online Packets’.
Step 3: Next, click the ‘Federal Impact Aid Survey’ button on the bottom of the page. This will take you to the Impact Aid Survey for you to complete.
If you have multiple children in FCPS, please fill out a form for each child. You will know you have completed all of the forms when you get to the final page and see a green check next to each of their names.

We are excited to once again be partnering with WETA to host a Meet Me at the Library event at the Kings Park Public Library! This event is a great opportunity for families to listen to stories, play some games and participate in activities to promote literacy, math, problem solving skills and, this month, Health and Nutrition! This event will showcase fun ways to promote healthy eating habits and exercise.
On Tuesday, Nov. 18th, families are invited to the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Rd, Burke, VA 22015) at 5:00 PM for an hour-long session with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff. This is a free event for Kings Park students. Every student that attends will receive a free book from WETA. We hope to see you in the Community Meeting Room at the Kings Park Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 18th, at 5:00pm!
Thanksgiving Luncheon - Volunteers Needed!
Many volunteers are needed to help Kings Park’s Thanksgiving Luncheon event on Friday, November 21st, run smoothly. Advanced Academics Spotlight
Be sure to check out the November Kings Park/Kings Glen AAP Newsletter, linked on our Kings Park Website! Mrs. Mucciolo and Mrs. Rode will continue to offer office hours for questions about services and screening. You can find the link as well as a checklist for submitting full-time materials in this month's edition!
Reminder: Window for AAP Full-Time Referrals Ends December 15, 2025
Parents/guardians of KPES students in Grades 2-3 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time Advanced Academic Programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Jamie Mucciolo (JMMucciolo@fcps.edu) no later than December 15, 2025.
The window to submit an AAP Full-Time Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time services can be accepted.
Submitting a referral form for AAP Full-Time services will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school committee will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data points which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Jamie Mucciolo in mid/late February.
For more information, parents may review Testing and Identification information on the AAP office website, as well as information about Full-Time services. We have also created a Full-Time Referral Checklist to assist with required and optional materials. Please reach out to Jamie Mucciolo via email at JMMucciolo@fcps.edu with any further questions.

Resources for Furloughed Families
Fairfax County is home to around 80,000 federal employees and thousands of federal contractors. Its Federal Workforce Resource Hub is intended to help navigate current and future issues for residents, government employees, active military/veterans, contractors, nonprofits and businesses who may be affected by actions, changes, or disruptions to federal services or employment.
Community Resources for Families
- Through partnerships with community-based organizations and other Fairfax County agencies, Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) provides information, referrals, and advocacy to help individuals connect with services, including basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), financial assistance, health care services, and referrals to other services and resources. Visit the CSP website or call 703-222-0880 (TTY 711) for assistance. - The Fairfax County Government and various local organizations are stepping up to offer a range of assistance, including food, financial, and housing resources. I encourage any of our families who are experiencing financial distress, due to the shutdown or for any reason, to visit the Fairfax County Human Services Resource Guide (HSRG) website.

This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again.
