Principals' Update

Dear TLES Families, 🐯🍂🎃

We were absolutely thrilled by the joy and imagination that filled the halls of TLES recently! We loved seeing our Tigers excited and creatively dressed up for Book Character Day, truly bringing their favorite stories and characters to life. It was also wonderful to have so many parents and guardians join us for class parties as we celebrated fall and marked the successful close of Quarter 1. Your partnership made these events incredibly special!

Looking ahead, students will have Monday, November 3rd and Tuesday, November 4th as student holidays. We can’t wait to welcome them back on Wednesday, November 5th.

We have been thrilled to see so many TLES parents and guardians already connecting with teachers during fall conferences, with many more scheduled this upcoming week. Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and enthusiasm. Together, we will ensure this year continues to be outstanding for every Tiger.

Have a wonderful weekend, 🐯🍂🎃

Ben Chiet, Sarah Buchanan & Lindsay Duch

Impact of Federal Shutdown on Local Community

Fairfax County is home to around 80,000 federal employees and thousands of federal contractors. Its Federal Workforce Resource Hub is intended to help navigate current and future issues for residents, government employees, active military/veterans, contractors, nonprofits and businesses who may be affected by actions, changes, or disruptions to federal services or employment.

Community Resources for Families in Need

Through partnerships with community-based organizations and other Fairfax County agencies, Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) provides information, referrals, and advocacy to help individuals connect with services, including: basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), financial assistance, health care services, and referrals to services and resources.

Visit the CSP website or call 703-222-0880 for assistance.

How to Access or Donate Food to Those in Need

View the Emergency Food Access Providers webpage to see where to access food or donate to your local food bank.

Family Literacy Program

The Family Literacy Program is part of the Office for ESOL Services in Fairfax County Public Schools. It is designed to empower and connect English Learner (EL) families to their community and with their children’s school. Adult learners acquire basic English language skills while learning how to understand, participate, and support in their children’s education in Fairfax County Public Schools. These classes are free for parents with children in FCPS. There are 2 programs available:

  1. Program at Heritage Building
    • Days: Tuesday and Thursdays
    • Time: 5:00-7:00pm
    • Location: 7611 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003
  2. Program at Graham Road Community Building
    • Days: Wednesdays and Fridays
    • Time: 10:00am-12:00pm
    • Location: 3036 Graham Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042

Family Academy Offers Opportunities to Support Parents and Guardians

The FCPS Family Academy offers resources and in-person and virtual classes, workshops, webinars, and programs for families. The following webinars and workshops will take place in November:

  • ABA Family Training: Prioritizing Skills to Teach at Home
  • Co-Parenting: Two Parents, Two Homes (in Spanish)
  • Supporting Your Military-Connected Student in Secondary School
  • Moving on to Life in the Community

Other Family Resource Center webinars will cover topics such as communication with twice exceptional children, family engagement in the special education process, restorative justice practices in schools and at home, and improving routines.

Visit the Family Academy Catalog to learn more about these and other resources.

Bond Referendum

🗳️On November 4, Fairfax County voters will see a $460 million School Bond Referendum on the ballot. But what does that mean?

Just like a family takes out a mortgage to buy a home, Fairfax County sells bonds to fund big school projects like renovations, new buildings, and sustainability upgrades. Bonds simply allow us to spread the cost of major school improvements over time. These funds don't come from the annual FCPS operating budget.

And...these bonds aren't likely to raise your local taxes, thanks to the guidelines that the county has put in place for managing debt responsibly.
