From the Principals’ Desk
Our Eagles continue to soar—both in school and in service! 🦅
Our Read-a-Fun fundraiser is still going strong through November 7, and we are so proud of our students for logging their reading minutes and showing their love of books. We have raised $2,581 so far! We are so close to our $3,000! Every page read supports our school and strengthens our community’s focus on literacy. Keep encouraging your child to read at home and help us reach our goal!
We’ve also collected a lot of food for our SEES SCA and Cub Scouts Pack 868 Food Frive for ECHO! This has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to show compassion and responsibility by helping families in need. Donation bins will be located in the lobby until November 5th, and every contribution—big or small—makes a difference.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Springfield Estates a place where our Eagles SOAR in both learning and giving.
With gratitude,
April Martin, Proud Principal, & Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

What’s happened in First Grade Reading this week?
FCPS Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence: Benchmark
First Grade Unit 2 Essential Question
How do we learn about characters?
In this unit, students read and compare selections about different types of characters and analyze what the characters say, think, and do.
📚 Finishing Up Uncovering Characters in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 2 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about different characters in stories and their own personal sense of character.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: How does the way you act change the way you think about yourself?
- Activity: Draw a new cover for a favorite book featuring the main character in a key moment.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

✨ Math Spotlight
What’s happened in Sixth Grade Math this week?
FCPS Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence - Student Centered Engagement
Sixth Grade Focus for This Week:
Our sixth-grade math classes are diving into a variety of engaging topics this fall! The students are exploring different concepts designed to build a strong foundation for future success. In Math 6, students are developing their understanding of how fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, and percents relate to one another. In Math 7, students are reviewing key “ground rules” of mathematics—such as the Order of Operations, substitution and variables, and combining like terms—in preparation for solving equations. Meanwhile, our Algebra I students are applying these skills to linear functions, learning to find x- and y-intercepts, determine slope, and write equations in slope-intercept form. No matter the course, all of our sixth graders are strengthening their problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking!
🏡 Community Corner
Our SEES SCA and Cub Scouts Pack 868 Food Drive for ECHO is going great! Thank you all who are donating. We are accepting donations until November 5th. Every little bit helps!
