Rolling Gradebook
All KJMS teachers use a rolling gradebook. Within a rolling gradebook, a quarter grade provides accurate, up-to-date information on the student’s cumulative course performance to that point. A rolling gradebook determines final grades through a cumulative average of assignments from the full school year or semester, rather than an average of each quarter grade. The rolling gradebook provides students with an accurate understanding of their current progress within a course. Increased opportunities for students to show mastery is a primary benefit of a rolling gradebook, as well as the ability to provide accurate, real-time grade information. Teachers using rolling gradebooks meet requirements for the minimum number of graded assignments within a quarter and the maximum amount that a single assignment can count within the current quarter.
Summative Assessment/Assignment Retakes
For summative assessments, one new opportunity to demonstrate proficiency up to 90% shall be provided to any student who completes corrective action determined by the teacher. The student’s highest score up to 90% shall be entered into the gradebook. Students who receive a 90% or above on an initial assessment are not eligible for reassessment. The last date to retake a summative assessment/assignment from the first quarter is Friday, December 5th.
Additional Support - KJMS Learners Lab
The KJMS Learners Lab (see flyer below) is available for students Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Mondays are reserved for test make-ups and re-takes as assigned by a classroom teacher. Wednesday and Thursday are days students can get support with organization and academic content.
SIS ParentVUE End-of-Quarter Closure
The Gradebook in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE will be closed for the end of the first quarter from Friday, October 31, 4 p.m. to Monday, November 10, 6 a.m. Activate your ParentVUE account to easily access grade reports.
Changes to Middle and High School Report Card Feedback
With the first quarter of the school year ending on Friday, October 31, families can expect student report cards to be available the week of November 10.
FCPS has revised the way teachers provide feedback on report cards, so you may notice some new comments. Specifically, comments have been revised to provide more detailed feedback for students and families.
Also, teachers will now include a Work Habits mark each quarter for each student. This scale provides feedback on students’ time management, organization, assignment completion, and overall effort in class. This is meant as feedback to families and will not appear on a student’s transcript.
