Medical Assistant students selected a disease of their choice, researched that disease and carved pumpkins to represent that condition. In addition, students had to answer questions to make their way through a medical escape room! Great Halloween fun had by all the Medical Assistant students.
Falls Church Academy is honored to have a strong relationship with Inova Health System who provided a great experience for our students on Inova Day. Professional representatives from the career areas of nursing, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging & sonography, histology, medical lab and respiratory therapy provided hands-on activities and presentations so students could understand that career field, the education and certifications needed and what a day in the life of the medical area looks like.
Students from the Dental Careers course attend multiple dental screening opportunities at area elementary schools through the academic year. Dr. Julie Jung, DDS, with Tyler Dental Clinic provides the screenings while the dental students, supported by Dental Teacher Mrs. Emily Velez, assist her and provide healthy oral habits educational activities for children.
 VCU School of Pharmacy
 Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy.
Representatives from VCU School of Pharmacy and Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy spoke to the Level 2 Pharmacy students to provide these seniors with information on their next steps in their educational and career direction. Current university students offered advice and experience concerning their pathway toward a strong career in pharmacy.
Ryan Henandez, '23 and Cooper Schraml, 24' returned to their EMT classroom to share with current students their experience as EMT. Both Ryan and Cooper are serving as volunteer fire and EMS with Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, Cooper is a student at West Virginia University. They brough with them a fire utility truck to show students the equipment used on various calls. Also in the photo is a great supporter and champion of the EMT program at the Academy, Mrs. Gina Lintott, Academy Resource Teacher.
At various times through the year, Dental Careers students must demonstrate certain hands-on skills and be evaluated by the instructor, Mrs. Emily Velez, to ensure they are understanding the techniques. Dr. Julie Jung, DDS, provides dental support for this experience.
