Haycock Elementary Family Liaison Newsletter

From Your Family Liaison: Kathryn Dunbar

Absences Add Up...There is a strong correlation between regular school attendance and higher graduation rates. Research indicates that missing only 2 days every month or 18 days in a school year can result in lower test scores and possible retention in later grades. We understand missed days are unavoidable for certain events; however, please keep the school calendar in mind when scheduling out of town days.

Absenteeism

Also, as the weather turns colder, make sure to inform your student's teacher if they will be out sick more than one day so plans to make up missed work can be made.

Help Haycock GET TO GREEN

Sunday, November 16, 11am - 1pm

                                            Bring the whole family!

Join Haycock staff to move and spread topsoil into new garden areas and pull plants to get existing gardens clear for the winter.

Please bring garden gloves, shovels, and any wagons or wheelbarrows you have to share. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes for digging and moving around.

Students welcome, accompanied by adults.

No sign up needed, just meet by the playground!

Emergency Food Access Map!

The above searchable food access resource connects community members to the locations of food distributions throughout Fairfax County. The results can be filtered by several variables including zip code, items needed, and language spoken. Metro routes are also displayed to help plan your trip. Please make sure to call or email the food provider listed on the map to confirm they are open.

Donate Puzzles, Games, or Lego!

Join Haycock's SCA to HELP Pieces of Illumination (POI)

...which collects gently used puzzles, games, and Lego for pediatric therapy centers and senior citizen centers. POI volunteers also visit these centers to work on puzzles & play games together, listen to their stories, and perform music and dance.

Check out their website:  https://www.poi4community.org/

A collection box will be in the front hall until Wednesday, November 19th
