Impact of Federal Shutdown on Local Community

Fairfax County is home to around 80,000 federal employees and thousands of federal contractors. Its Federal Workforce Resource Hub is intended to help navigate current and future issues for residents, government employees, active military/veterans, contractors, nonprofits and businesses who may be affected by actions, changes, or disruptions to federal services or employment.

Community Resources for Families in Need

Through partnerships with community-based organizations and other Fairfax County agencies, Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) provides information, referrals, and advocacy to help individuals connect with services, including: basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), financial assistance, health care services, and referrals to services and resources.

Visit the CSP website or call 703-222-0880 for assistance.

How to Access or Donate Food to Those in Need

View the Emergency Food Access Providers webpage to see where to access food or donate to your local food bank.

CES Backpack Program

CES will be offering our Backpack Food Program this year.  We understand that for various reasons some families may have difficulty providing sufficient food needs for their children. The Backpack Food Program is a partnership between Centreville Elementary School and Mount Olive Baptist Church that supports the nutritional needs of our students.

The Backpack Food Program will provide a bag of nonperishable food items to your child each Friday afternoon for him or her to eat over the weekend. The food will be placed in your child’s backpack at the end of the day. Your child will receive the food items in a confidential area of the school.

If this program will help your family, and the need exists, we hope you will allow us to support you and your child with the Backpack Food Program.

Please contact Mrs. Kreider at aekreider@fcps.edu or you can fill out the form.

Veteran's Day Lunch

On Monday, November 10th, 2025 Centreville Elementary School would like to continue our tradition of honoring veterans with a special event at our school for Veterans Day.  We will have a luncheon prepared in your honor that you will be able to enjoy with your student(s) at CES.  Any relatives of our CES students who are veterans are welcome to join us in our event.

We also would like to invite you to read to students in classrooms around our building.  This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about how you have served and to show their appreciation for your service.  If interested, veterans may choose between two time slots to be a guest reader in several classrooms around the school. Lunch for all guest readers and their children will be provided from 12:15pm - 1:15pm.

Choice 1 will be 10:45am - 12:15pm reading in classrooms

Choice 2 will be 1:15pm – 2:45pm reading in classrooms.

Thank you so much for your service.  We hope many veterans will be able to attend this special event at CES. If you are interested, please sign up using the form below.

This year, our front display case will incorporate a collaborative approach between CES teachers and families. We will use the FCPS recognized heritage and celebration months. Families and CES staff are invited to share books, artifacts, pictures, etc. for each month.

Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent children feeling valued and gives them a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent experiencing another life and promotes empathy.

We will celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November.

If your family wants to send something in, please contact:
