Message from Mr. Greata
Dear Woodson Families,
Congratulations to all our students and their families on successfully completing the first quarter! We’ve seen incredible effort, learning, and achievement across the board — and we have so much to celebrate.
Last week, our Environmental Club represented Woodson at the FCPS State of Schools event and then later in the week, planted 40 new trees on our campus. Thanks to a grant partnership with Casey Trees, our students planted a variety of young trees — each with its own creative name — truly putting the “Woods” in Woodson!
Our performing arts programs also continue to shine. Members of Woodson Drama performed at the Virginia Thespians Conference, with several students auditioning for colleges and receiving talent scholarships on the spot. Meanwhile, our Woodson Drama Department received multiple awards (listed below) — congratulations to these talented students and directors for their outstanding work!🎭
- Lip Sync Competition -2nd place
- Tech Olympic-1st place
- Best Scenic Design - Henry Green
- Musical Theatre Competition: Yeamlak Tekabe
- Best Design - Woodson One Act -A Piece of my Heart
- Best Ensemble-Woodson One Act -A Piece of my Heart
This weekend, the Drama Department will present Tartuffe, a hilarious play about greed and deception — with a unique Wild West twist!
📅 Showtimes:
- Saturday, November 8th - 1pm and 7pm
- Sunday, November 9th - 1pm
A special shout-out to our Varsity Boys Lacrosse Head Coach, Rodney Cornell, who was recently inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Osbourn Park High School, where he coached for 14 years. What an incredible honor and well-deserved recognition!
This week, both our Boys and Girls Volleyball teams begin their Regional Tournaments, and our Football Team will play their final home game of the season this Friday night against Fairfax High School. Let’s pack the stands and cheer them on!
Looking ahead to next week, we’re excited to host our Career Fair on Monday, featuring more than 50 vendors ready to share insights and opportunities with our students. Thank you to all of the volunteers who are helping make this event possible — we couldn’t do it without you!
Enjoy the extended student holiday, don’t forget to get out and vote, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Wednesday.

Federal Impact Aid Form
FCPS is asking all families, regardless if you are affiliated with the military or work on Federal Property, to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For more information, please visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
Register for ParentVUE
Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey and have access to other helpful information about your child.
Free and Reduced Meal Eligibility
If your children qualify for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM), they may also be eligible for:
-
Waivers or reduced fees for other FCPS fee-based programs.
-
Information about scholarships, classes, and services from non-FCPS agencies and organizations.
To receive these additional benefits, you must give written consent allowing FCPS staff to share your children's meal eligibility status with administrators, school counselors and the school's finance technician. This information will not be shared with any other parties.
The Consent to Share is available here in multiple languages. Copies are available in Student Services, as well.
Checking out early?
The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to the Attendance Office in the morning!
Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them, making sending a note the quickest option!
For emergencies or last-minute appointments, you can also call the 24-hour attendance line at 703-503-4800 and leave a message.
Important Reminders:
-
Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
-
If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the attendance office.
Go Paperless!
Did you know you can view your student’s report card under the Documents tab in ParentVUE? You also have the option to “Go Paperless” for Secondary Report Cards and Elementary Progress Reports by simply checking the box under your account details. This ensures your documents are delivered digitally, saving paper and arriving faster — plus they won’t be mailed to your home.

FAFSA Updates
Federal Student Aid has made the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available ahead of the scheduled release date. Any college-bound high school senior — regardless of income — who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs should complete a FAFSA form. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to work with their students to complete the FAFSA as early as possible. Check each college’s financial aid office website for deadlines and financial aid forms. Then, create an account, if you have not already done so, and fill out the FAFSA.
The Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application has not yet opened but should be available in late January for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA. To help determine which aid option is right for you, visit the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia website.
Over the next few months, College Access Fairfax will be offering several programs on completing the FAFSA/VASA and finding and applying for scholarships. Get information on these programs and how to access them on the College Access Fairfax website.
In addition, College Access Fairfax staff are available for virtual one-on-one help sessions to complete the FAFSA/VASA. To request an appointment, families should email appointments@CollegeAccessFairfax.org.

Bond Referendum
How Bond Projects Are Selected
Each year, the School Board and FCPS staff members work with the community to develop an updated, five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for school building and renovation projects. To develop the CIP, the school system assesses changes in expected enrollments, academic programs, and facility conditions to determine priorities for new construction, renovations, and other capital facility projects. The School Board then evaluates the affordability of these school needs against other countywide requirements to determine the bond proposal.
Because of this, while FCPS and the School Board generally try to follow the CIP, changes can be made year-over-year depending on the evolving needs of the school division.
The School Board is committed to protecting the community’s investment in schools and other buildings, which have a combined present value approaching $9 billion. Not only do these facilities wear out over time, but they also become outdated, both technologically and instructionally. FCPS renovates its schools to ensure that students, countywide, have effective and efficient learning environments to thrive and grow.
Read more about the FCPS 2025 Bond Referendum. Learn more about registering to vote. Make a voting plan and vote on Tuesday, November 4.
